Leadership Report

Term 2, Week 5
Dear WNPS Families,
As we hit the halfway point in the term, and the beginning of Winter, we encourage families to take care of each other, start rugging up, and resting if unwell and needing time to recover from any winter colds and flues.
If a classroom teacher is absent and we are unable to secure a Casual Relief Teacher (CRT), classes may need to be split across their sub-school (Prep/1, Year 1/2, Year 3/4, Year 5/6). While we always make every effort to organise a replacement teacher, especially for our Prep classes, current teacher shortages across the state can sometimes make this difficult.
When a class split is required, teachers carefully plan how students will be grouped and which classrooms they will join for the day. Consideration is given to friendships, learning needs, routines and classroom dynamics to help students feel comfortable and supported. The class students join when split, generally stays consistent across the year so that students have another teacher in their sub-school that they feel comfortable with. Teachers across the school are familiar with incoming students and work to ensure they feel welcomed, included and part of the class for the day.
Students participate in the learning program and routines of the classroom they join, and where possible, classes are brought back together at the end of the day for dismissal.
At times throughout the school year, children may experience friendship difficulties, misunderstandings or social challenges as they learn to navigate relationships with others. We work closely with students to support them in developing positive relationships, communication skills and strategies for resolving conflict.
If your child comes home upset or shares a concern about something that has happened at school, we encourage families to contact their classroom teacher as the first point of call. In many cases, a conversation with the classroom teacher helps provide context, clarifies misunderstandings and supports a positive resolution. Families are also welcome to contact the main Williamstown North PS email address flagging a member of the leadership team, if they deem their concern needing more attention and support.
At school, we take a positive and restorative approach to behaviour support. Our focus is on helping students learn from situations, repair relationships, build empathy and develop the skills needed to manage social challenges successfully.
To help us support all students in a calm, respectful, and safe manner, we ask that families do not approach other students or parents directly regarding playground or friendship concerns. Direct parent-to-child or parent-to-parent conversations at school can unintentionally escalate situations and may cause distress for all involved. Bringing concerns directly to school staff allows us to investigate situations fully, support all students involved and work together towards positive outcomes.
Please reach out if you have any questions.
Kind regards,
Shevani Moodley - Deputy Principal
Leadership Team for 2026
