Week 3 Greeting

第三週　ご挨拶

What a sudden change in temperature we have experienced over the past week! Even for Melbourne, a city famously known for having “four seasons in one day,” the shift has felt particularly extreme. As we move further into the cooler months, I encourage everyone in our community to take care of themselves and to ensure children come to school prepared for changing conditions throughout the day. Bringing a jacket or extra layers can make a big difference in helping students stay comfortable and ready for learning, especially when temperatures can vary so quickly between the morning and afternoon.

今週は急激な気温の変化がありました。 「一日に四季がある」と言われることで有名なメルボルンですが、今回の寒暖差は特に厳しく感じられます。これからさらに寒い季節に向かう中で、どうぞ体調管理に気をつけください。また、お子さまが一日の気温変化に対応できるよう、上着や重ね着できる服を持たせていただければと思います。朝晩と日中で気温差が大きいため、子どもたちが快適に過ごし、学習に集中できるようご協力をお願いいたします。

Bicycles and Scooters in the Playground

校庭での自転車・スクーターについて

A friendly reminder to all members of our school community that bicycles and scooters must be pushed, not ridden, while in the playground area. We absolutely love seeing students choosing healthy and active ways to travel to and from school, and it is fantastic to see so many children riding or scooting each day — please keep it up! At the same time, we ask everyone to be mindful that we have many younger children in our community who enjoy running and playing in the playground before and after school. By walking bicycles and scooters through these busy areas, we can help ensure the safety of all students and families.

校庭内では自転車やスクーターに乗らず、押して移動していただくよう改めてお願いいたします。毎日、多くの子どもたちが自転車やスクーターで元気に登校している姿を見るのは大変嬉しく、健康的で素晴らしいことですので、これからもぜひ続けてください。一方で、登下校前後には小さなお子さまたちが校庭を走り回って遊んでいることも多くあります。安全のため、校庭内では必ず自転車やスクーターを押して移動していただき、皆が安心して過ごせる環境づくりにご協力をお願いいたします。

Children’s Day – Kodomo no Hi

こどもの日

Over the course of this week, our students celebrated Japanese Children’s Day, known as Kodomo no Hi. Traditionally celebrated in Japan on 5 May each year, Children’s Day symbolises wishes for good health and a long life for the children in each family. In earlier times, families would prepare special treats called kashiwa mochi to mark the occasion, and many people in Japan continue this tradition today as part of the celebration.  As a part of this celebration, on 14 May, our wonderful Parents and Friends Club will treat our students to a special lunch order featuring a Japanese bento box with onigiri, karaage chicken and edamame. Thank you to all the families who placed an order, and we also greatly appreciate the hard work of the PFC in making this exciting event happen once again.

On behalf of all the adults in our community, I would like to extend our warmest wishes for a healthy, happy and fulfilling life for all of the children at CPS.

今週、生徒達は様々なアクティビティを通して日本の「こどもの日」をお祝いしました。こどもの日は毎年5月5日に祝われ、子どもたちの健やかな成長と幸せを願う日本の伝統行事です。昔から、この日には「柏餅（かしわもち）」という特別なお菓子を食べてお祝いをしており、現在でも多くの家庭でその伝統が受け継がれています。

5月14日には、Parents and Friends Club（PFC）の役員の方々が、日本のお弁当ランチが企画されています。メニューは、おにぎり、唐揚げ、枝豆が入った特別なお弁当です。ご注文いただいたご家庭の皆さま、ありがとうございます。また、この楽しい企画を実現するために準備を進めてくださったPFCの皆さまにも心より感謝申し上げます。

学校に関わる全ての大人を代表して、CPSの過去、現在、未来の生徒達全員が、健康で幸せに、そして充実した毎日を過ごせることを心より願っています。

Visual Art Lesson

ビジュアル・アートのレッスン風景

Last week, I had the opportunity to spend some time in the Artroom observing our Year 5/6 students engaged in a thoughtful and creative drawing activity. Students were asked to work from a photograph of a flower; however, the challenge came with an interesting twist. Using a frame, students had to select a specific focus area within the photograph and draw only that section. This required them to think carefully about focal point, detail and the balanced proportion of the overall image. It was wonderful to see the level of concentration and persistence students demonstrated throughout the task. The room was incredibly calm and focused as students immersed themselves in their artwork.

先週、アートルームで5・6年生の授業を見学する機会がありました。子どもたちは花の写真を見ながらデッサンに取り組んでいましたが、今回は少し工夫された課題でした。フレームを使って写真の中から描く部分を自分で選び、その限られた範囲だけを描くという活動です。この課題では、「焦点」をどこに置くかを考えながら、全体とのバランスや細かな描写にも注意を払う必要がありました。子どもたちはとても集中して取り組んでおり、静かで落ち着いた雰囲気の中で作品制作に没頭している姿がとても印象的でした。
