Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies Grampians Experience
Merrin Shannon

We were so fortunate to experience the wonderful weather during the first week of Term 2. The Year 12 team with Ms Shannon, Mr Flavel and Sarah Byron travelled to the Grampians to learn about contemporary relationships in the area, specifically recreational, conservational and economic.

Students visited Grampians Olives, a certified dryland organic olive farm that uses no herbicides or pesticides. We looked at Aboriginal rock art sites at Gulgurn Manja and Ngamadjidj shelter and met with Joseph Terry, the Grampians Ark Team Leader who spoke about the endangered brush tail rock wallaby and the impact the 2025 bushfire had on wildlife. We then hiked along the Grampians Peaks trail from the Mt Difficult track to Gar campsite where we stayed the night on the mountain, seeing both sunset and sunrise. Gar did not disappoint! On the last day we hiked out from Gar to Beehive Falls – amazing scenery!!
