Acting Principal's Report

Deanne Scott

Hello DPW Community,

As we approach the halfway point of the term, I’ve been reflecting on just how much has already taken place. We began with our ANZAC Commemorative Assembly, followed by our Mother’s Day Stall, volunteer induction, the Foundation Family Afternoon Tea, Interschool Netball Tournament, the Year 1 excursion to the Melbourne Museum, District Cross Country, and the Year 5 three‑day camp to Cottage by the Sea. And that’s not even counting the rich learning and daily experiences happening in classrooms every single day. It has certainly been a vibrant and productive start to the term.

We still have a few exciting events coming up this term. Our Year 3-6 Athletics day is next Thursday, the 28th May, with the Foundation- Year 2 Athletics on Monday 1st June. Our Celebration of Learning will be held on Friday 19th June, and I am looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible. Our last event of the term will be our Reporting to Families day on Tuesday, 23rd June. This is a student free day, and you will be sent information closer to the day about how to book your spot with your child’s teacher.

Education Week

This week is Education Week, an annual celebration of public education in Victoria. Each year, the week has a theme. This year’s Education Week theme, ‘Showcase your school’, encourages school communities to promote what’s great about their school. Make sure you read further into our newsletter this week to see what some of our students have responded with as they discussed what’s great about our school.

For me, I am incredibly proud of our students. Whenever they participate in events off‑site, we consistently receive positive feedback about them (and, of course, about our dedicated staff as well). Our students are always so welcoming to visitors and never hesitate to jump in and help. Their kindness, confidence, and willingness to represent our school so positively truly reflect our values and the strong community we are building together.

Bicycle and Scooter Safety

We are very pleased to see an increase in the number of students riding their bikes and scooters to school. It’s a fantastic way to travel and a great way to stay active. However, we are concerned about the number of children riding without a helmet. Helmets significantly reduce the risk of serious head injury, and I have seen first‑hand how important they are in an accident. Our students are incredibly important to us, and we want them to grow and thrive — protecting their brain is a vital part of that.

All people who ride a bicycle or scooter are required by law to wear a helmet.

If your child rides their bike or scooter to school without an appropriate helmet, we will not allow them to ride it home without one. They will need to bring a helmet to school the following day, or an adult will need to come to collect their bike/scooter.

Fundraising Committee

On behalf of School Council, I’d like to put out a call for volunteers to join our newly formed fund‑raising committee. If you are interested in being part of this group, please contact the office to register your name. To volunteer, you will need a Working With Children Check. If you take part in any fund‑raising activities during school hours, you will also be required to complete the school’s Volunteer Induction session.

We truly appreciate any time and support our families give to the school. If you’re keen to help out, this is a wonderful way to get involved and make a positive impact.

Reminders:

Enrolments for Foundation 2027 are now open.

For any families wishing to get to know our school a little before making the decision to enrol, we have some dates available for a tour:

Wednesday 10th June – 12pm

Should you wish to attend one of the school tours, please contact the office on 9363 3519, to reserve a place.
