Grandparents Day
Last Wednesday, we held our annual Junior School Grandparents Day. It was a pleasure to welcome so many grandparents and special friends into our school. Guests spent time in classrooms with students, sharing in their learning, before enjoying a morning tea provided by our PTFA. We thank everyone who joined us and helped make the day so special.
Prep
Our Prep students had a wonderful time celebrating Grandparents Day last week! It was so special to welcome grandparents and special visitors into our classroom. Students loved spending time together playing games, colouring, creating crowns and cards, and reading stories. It was a beautiful day filled with smiles, laughter and many special memories. Thank you to all of our families for your support in helping make the day so meaningful for our Preps.
The Preps also enjoyed preparing for Mother’s Day by creating beautiful cards with their buddies and decorating candles for their mums. In Science, we have continued exploring Movement and investigated the different ways toys can move. Students have had lots of fun experimenting with a variety of toys and beginning to think about the mechanics behind how different objects move in different ways.

Year 1
Last week, our Year 1 classroom was full of excitement as we welcomed Grandparents and special visitors for a fun morning of learning and connection. The children loved making necklaces, doing creative pasting activities, and interviewing their visitors. It was wonderful to hear the thoughtful questions they asked as they learned what life was like when their visitors were children. The room was filled with love, laughter, and so many special moments.
One of the highlights of the day was seeing four generations together for one of our students - such a beautiful reminder of the importance of family and the love shared across generations. Everyone also enjoyed joining in for a dance to the Hokey Pokey!
Grandparents Day was a lovely opportunity to celebrate community, family, and the special relationships in our lives. As Proverbs 17:6 reminds us, “Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.” We are so thankful for the opportunity to learn, laugh, and share this special day together.
Year 1 also had fun creating shortbread for Mother's Day. Using their Science knowledge of push and pull they created a smooth, firm dough, before pushing cutters into the rolled dough to create shapes.

Year 2
Our classroom in Year 2 has been full of activity this week. We loved welcoming Grandparents and special friends and showing them around. It was wonderful to see our younger and older generation working together and learning from each other.
Students also spent time writing cards to their mothers and making little terrariums to take home as a gift. Well done to all the boys and girls for working so carefully to layer the stones and plant your succulent - we hope these live a long time!
After a very rainy last week, we spent Monday enjoying the sunshine and spending time together outdoors. It is always a joy to listen to the children's chatter and hear their kind interactions - keep it up Year 2!
Year 2 and Year 4 also spent time together on Monday working on a scavenger hunt outside. They needed to find something that started with each letter of the alphabet - a challenge for some letters! Thank you Year 4 class for helping and for showing such care and maturity.

Year 3
It certainly has been a very busy and special fortnight in Year 3! We spent a great deal of time preparing some beautiful surprises for our grandparents before welcoming them into our classroom for Grandparents’ Day. It was so lovely to share part of our school life with them and hear stories about what life was like when they were growing up. The children loved having such special visitors in our room and proudly showing them the wonderful learning that happens each day at school.
We also spent time preparing special gifts and heartfelt writing for our mums to celebrate Mother’s Day. The children put so much thought and care into expressing just how much their mums mean to them and how thankful they are for all that they do. It was wonderful to see such genuine love and appreciation shine through their writing.
This week, much of our focus has been on preparing for this week’s assembly performance, where we will be singing the iconic Australian song I Am Australian by The Seekers. This ties beautifully into our Humanities learning about Australia, where we have explored interesting parts of Australian history and culture through the song itself. Along the way, we have learned about figures and stories such as Ned Kelly, Waltzing Matilda, and Banjo Paterson, helping us gain a deeper understanding of Australia’s rich history and identity.
We would also like to extend a very special thank you to Claire for leading our assembly performance with her beautiful singing of the opening verse as a sign of respect for Aboriginal culture. We are so grateful for the time and care she gave in rehearsing with us. We would also like to thank Mr Sherrin for joining us on stage and representing Aboriginal culture through the use of clapsticks during our performance. Their contributions have made our assembly extra meaningful and special.
We would also like to extend a huge thank you to the parents who helped organise costumes and props for our assembly performance. Your support, time, and effort behind the scenes were so appreciated and truly invaluable in helping bring our performance to life. We are incredibly grateful for the way our families continually support the learning and experiences of our Year 3 students.

Year 4
Our Year 4 students put their creativity and care into some very special Mother’s Day gifts last week. Each student designed and created a beautiful picture, which was then presented in a frame for their mums and special people.
The students did a fantastic job and took great pride in making something thoughtful and personal. It was wonderful to see the effort, creativity, and love that went into each piece.
We hope all our mums enjoyed their special gifts and felt very appreciated on Mother’s Day!

Year 5
Year 5 really enjoyed hosting our grandparents and special friends last week. Everyone had someone special come and visit, whether it was Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, Mum or Dad, a family friend or a Year 9 student.
We all really enjoyed the activities that we could choose from that were written on the board. We all had to interview our special person and then trace each other's hands onto green card and write ways we were the same on the palm and ways we were different on the fingers. After we cut the hands out we stuck them onto the family tree in the corridor to become it's leaves.
Then we could choose from the other activities which were building a tower out of straws and sticky tape, playing a board game, making a word find about each other, colouring pictures and making a frame for them and doing some fun Maths pages. We all really enjoyed our time with our special people and we hope they had a good time too.

Year 6
Last week, our Year 6 students were busy in the kitchen preparing for Mother’s Day breakfasts by making delicious pancake stacks. There was lots of excitement as students mixed, cooked, and flipped their way to some fantastic results!
We hope to see some wonderful creations continued at home. If you’d like to try making pancakes together, here’s a simple recipe the students used:
Pancake Recipe (makes 4–5 pikelet-sized pancakes):
- ¾ cup self-raising flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 egg
½ cup milk
Mix all ingredients together until smooth, then cook spoonfuls in a pan over medium heat until golden on both sides.
We hope you enjoy making (and eating!) these at home just as much as the students did.
