The Preps have been identifying sounds in words by listening carefully to a word andshowing the number of sounds on their fingers. They have been listening for initial and final sounds in words. They have also been identifying the missing vowel sounds in words and recording missing vowels on their whiteboard. Grade Prep children have also been reading and writing short sentences.

Grade Ones have been learning how to use the suffix –ly and have also been learning about contractions. They have learnt about the apostrophe in these words and what the apostrophe is there for. Gr 2
Grade Twos have completed their final spelling assessments and their last readingcomprehension assessment. They have been revising some of the spelling skills and strategies they have learnt this semester through games, work tasks, and slideshows. Their final lesson willbe a Kahoot with questions about the different spelling and grammar skills they have learnt this year.Grade Twos have finished listening to “The 27th Annual African Hippopotamus Race,” by Morris Lurie. They were thrilled to find out that Edward won this huge swimming event, despite a lot ofcheating and shenanigans going on by other competitors. It was a good lesson about working hard and worrying about the things you can control. It was one of their favourite books.
Foundation
In Mathematics, Grade Prep children have been completing a variety of maths tasks, some Christmas themed, to show their understanding of number. They have had fun playing Bingo, testing their ability to recognise and match numbers.
Gr 1
In Mathematics, Grade Ones have been using number lines to add and subtract numbers. They have been using the counting-on strategy to assist them with their calculations. They have been partitioning numbers into tens and ones and writing number sentences.
Gr 2
In Mathematics, Grade Two children have been collecting, recording and interpreting data. They have completed a unit on Location, where they followed directions on maps and gave directions to places on a map. The children also looked at a “Bird’s Eye View” of rooms and drew what they thought furniture in a room would look like from above. These lessons tested a lot of children’s spatial awareness skills! These lessons were enjoyed by the children.

- Giving and following directions on a map.
Gr 5 and 6
Literacy
In Literacy, we are enjoying finishing our final novel called "The Last Bear" by Hannah Gold. This story is about a lonely girl named April that travels to the Arctic with her scientist father and befriends a polar bear. It focuses on their developing friendship, and April's determination to help the bear, who is stranded and suffering due to the effects of climate change.
In connection with this novel, during writing time, students have focused on persuasive writing and in particular, writing a persuasive letter about the protection of Polar Bears in the Arctic.
During spelling, our focus has been on root words, and adding prefixes and suffixes to these root words to change the meaning.
Maths
In Mathematics, we have been finishing off the year with our final topic all about the Four Operations.
