Year 5/6 Camp

Sovereign Hill – Eureka! What a fantastic three days away we had.
It almost feels like a rite of passage at Kyabram P–12 College to take part in the costumed school program at Sovereign Hill. This year, our students stepped into four school communities: The Wesleyan Day School, Ragged School, St Peter’s Diggings School, and the Red Hill National School. And what an experience it was.
How often do you actually get to fall into character and become part of a living history museum? Students addressed staff as “Sir” and “Ma’am,” wrote on slate boards with slate pencils, tried their hand with ink wells and quills, played knuckles and marbles, and even panned for gold down at the creek. It was phenomenal—and our students absolutely embraced every moment.
At lunch, our Principal even messaged his wife to say it was the best crew he’d had all year.
Attending Aura at night was another standout, with the dramatic outdoor theatre show captivating everyone. And that was all after a full day challenging ourselves at Adekate Camp, where students took on the Leap of Faith, flew down a massive zip line, built towering crate stacks, and tackled orienteering. We’re fairly sure, though, that the night-time cricket was the true highlight—with Mr Ross and Mr Alley dominating (apparently the students couldn’t tell the difference between them!).
A massive thank you must go to Mr Ross, the main organiser of the camp; to our incredible 5/6 staff; our amazing volunteers; the bus companies; and the teams at Sovereign Hill and Adekate Camp. And finally, an enormous thank you to our students, who represented our school exceptionally well, and to their families for enabling them to attend.
