Flying Start Inquiry Showcase

On Thursday 11 December, our Years 7–9 students proudly unveiled the results of 2.5 weeks of deep exploration, creativity, and hands-on learning at the Flying Start Inquiries Showcase. After immersing themselves in one of three inquiry projects designed to spark curiosity, build skills, and foster teamwork, students presented their learning in a vibrant two-hour exhibition attended by primary students and staff.
The energy across the showcase was electric. Projects on display highlighted not only the diverse passions of our learners, but also their commitment to producing thoughtful, high-quality work. Visitors moved from film trailers screening like mini-blockbusters, to beautifully crafted sugar art and decorated cakes. They explored inventive op-shop redo creations, examined historically rich dioramas, and tested clever town-planning innovations. Engineering challenges came to life through remarkably sturdy soft-drink-can constructions, while students in natural cosmetics proudly shared their handmade products. The market-place crafts stall drew plenty of admirers, and the bootcamp and sports-based inquiries showcased teamwork, leadership, and determination. A physics inquiry reflected the wonders of flight and the critical investigation of paper plane prototypes.
Across every inquiry, one theme was constant: students who engaged fully in their projects produced outstanding, showcase-worthy work. Their confidence, creativity, and ability to problem-solve in real time were on display for all to see.
This celebration of learning was made possible by the guidance and enthusiasm of staff, who supported students to stretch themselves, try new skills, and bring ambitious ideas to life. Their commitment to nurturing inquiry learning ensured that each project had direction, structure, and the encouragement needed for students to thrive.
The Flying Start Inquiries Showcase was not just an exhibition—it was a testament to the power of curiosity-driven learning. Congratulations to all students and staff involved for creating such an inspiring end-of-year celebration of what young people can achieve when given the time, space, and support to explore their passions.
We will be seeking feedback from students, families and staff in order to make this initiative bigger and better into 2026!
