The Preps went Christmas shopping in Maths. They chose an item from a catalogue and represented the one- or two-digit price using MAB 10 blocks. Then the students took their blocks to the ‘bank’ and exchanged the MAB 10 blocks for the equivalent amount of money. Finally, they drew their item and the amount needed to purchase it.
Literacy
The Preps are practising their writing skills. They constructed simple sentences using picture prompt cards and the Colourful Semantics sentence structure. In addition, the students demonstrated their use of capital letters, finger spaces and punctuation.
During dictation, a sentence is read to the class, the students count the words in the sentence, and then they attempt to write it using their knowledge of letters, sounds and tricky words. In the lead-up to the summer holidays, we have been reading the story Are We There Yet?. The students have been taken on a journey around Australia, visiting landmark sites along the way. We have researched new vocabulary, including the meaning of the word Nullarbor, which means “no trees.” The students also drew and labelled the characters in the story and the setting in which it takes place. The Preps imagined how the family might be feeling as they anticipate their long holiday.
Inquiry
This week, the Preps modelled and created their Billy Goats using their drawings as a guide. It was wonderful to see the students demonstrating creativity and imagination during the process.
Showcase of Learning
Thank you to the families who visited the Showcase of Learning yesterday. The Preps appreciated seeing familiar faces in the class, and they loved the opportunity to share and discuss their learning with their family, friends and teachers.
