Secondary News

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we come to the end of another remarkable year at Lakeside College, we want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to all our secondary students for their effort, resilience, achievement and growth throughout 2025. This year has been filled with significant achievements, both individual and collective and it has been a privilege to watch our students develop not only academically, but also as confident, compassionate young people.

Across the Middle School, students have continued to build strong foundations in learning, character and community life. From exploring new subjects within our elective program and developing effective study habits to stepping into leadership roles and embracing service opportunities, our students have shown enthusiasm and pride in their learning. The energy they bring to the College each day is a source of constant joy to our staff and certainly keeps us on our toes!

In the Senior School, students have demonstrated commitment and maturity as they worked through assessments, SACs, exams and our Headstart Program. Our Year 12 cohort, in particular, should be commended for the way they handled the challenges of their final year with determination and we eagerly anticipate their results and wish them well as they begin their new chapter of life beyond school.

This year also saw a wide range of co-curricular successes—Musical performances, sporting achievements, leadership initiatives, camps, community events and service programs that enriched the life of the College. These experiences are often the memories students treasure most and we thank all staff who made them possible.

As we conclude the year, we wish to express our sincere appreciation to our dedicated teachers and support staff, whose commitment to student wellbeing and learning has been unwavering. Thank you also to our parents and guardians for your partnership, encouragement and trust. The strong relationships within our community are what make Lakeside College such a special place.

To our students and families: we wish you a safe, restful and joyful Christmas and holiday break. May it be a time of re-energising, celebration and connection. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on campus refreshed and ready for another exciting year of learning and growth in 2026.

Function Fusion

Throughout terms 2 - 4, a dedicated group of Year 7 students have taken creativity, teamwork and problem-solving to the next level by designing and producing their very own maths board game. The project— extension completed on top of their regular studies—has been an inspiring example of student innovation in action.

Their finished product, Function Fusion, is a fast-paced, free-to-roam maths strategy game, where players compete to collect the most stars by the end of a set number of rounds. Throughout the game, players are challenged to solve levels of increasing difficulty, earn and spend tokens and navigate a range of exciting event spaces that can completely change the outcome. With its mix of strategy, chance and problem-solving, Function Fusion keeps players on their toes—who will luck out and come out on top?

From early brainstorming sessions to the final prototype, students worked collaboratively to plan rules, design artwork, test gameplay and refine mechanics. Their commitment and enthusiasm have resulted in a polished, engaging game that they are incredibly proud to share.

Congratulations to our talented Year 7 designers — Neel, Milen, Melvin, Jaiden, Toby and Shayan (7C) on this outstanding achievement. Function Fusion is proof of what can happen when creativity and curiosity collide.

Today, we met for our final Literacy Games@Lunch for the year. The most popular game has been UNO No Mercy, which is a game of special rules and super-tough action cards, for the most challenging version of UNO. Along with a regular group of Yr 7-10 students, a number of staff members - Mr Frank, Chaplain Fiona, Mr Schultz, Ms Robinson, Mrs Rodrigo and Dr Krishnan - have also enjoyed this interactive lunch-time activity. The games are played with passion and a sense of healthy competition, all whilst engaging in animated conversation.
