Science Across the School!

Foundation

Our youngest scientists have been busy discovering all the different ways things can move! They investigated how objects with round parts can roll and ones with flat parts can slide. They also learned how pushing and pulling affects movement, and explored how different things are designed to move. A definite favourite was learning about how animals move, lots of giggles and a bit of dancing!

Grade 1

Grade 1 students have been exploring Earth’s natural resources. What they are, why they matter, and how we can reduce, reuse, and recycle. They even became “Resource Rangers,” surveying our schoolyard to find out where resources might be getting wasted. Great work, environmental superheroes!

Grade 2

Our Grade 2s have been hard at work designing and building their very own arcade games to show their understanding of pushes and pulls. Along the way, they’ve practised important skills like negotiating, compromising, and working together. Fantastic teamwork and creativity on display!

Grade 3

Grade 3 students learned about the water cycle, the difference between weather and climate, and explored rocks, minerals, and soils. A standout lesson was growing sugar crystals! Even when experiments didn’t go exactly as planned, students discovered one of the most important parts of science – learning from the process and trying again. Plus, they still had lots of fun!

Grade 4

Grade 4 scientists investigated forces, starting with pushes and pulls and then diving into friction, gravity, magnetism, and static electricity. Their magnet experiments were a big hit, especially when they tried to move a toy car using only magnetic force and no hands!

Grade 5

This term, Grade 5 explored how weathering and erosion shape our planet. They then took a closer look at natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, and extreme weather. Two strong contenders for “favourite experiment” were watching erosion in action and creating toothpaste and tomato-sauce hotspot volcanoes. Messy, exciting, and full of learning!

Grade 6

Our senior students wrapped up their primary-school science journey with an illuminating unit on light. They explored how light travels in straight lines called rays, investigated transparent, translucent, and opaque materials, experimented with shadows, and uncovered the law of reflection through hands-on challenges. Their final experiment was a special one, learning how First Nations Peoples of Australia use refraction when spearfishing. A brilliant finish to their primary science adventure!
