đŸŽ¶ Celebrating a Wonderful Year in Performing Arts đŸŽ¶

As we reach the end of another vibrant and inspiring year, it’s the perfect time to reflect on and celebrate all that our students have achieved in the Performing Arts. 2025 has been filled with creativity, confidence, teamwork and joy—hallmarks of what makes the arts such an important part of our school community.

One of the standout moments of the year was our spectacular whole-school production of Shrek Jr. Our students amazed us with their talent, energy and commitment, bringing the story to life with humour, heart and professionalism. The show was a true community effort, and we couldn’t be prouder of every student involved on stage, behind the scenes, and in the audience cheering them on.

Our Vocal Showcase and Instrumental Music Showcase were further highlights, providing wonderful opportunities for students to shine as soloists and ensemble performers. From our youngest beginners to our more experienced musicians, the growth in confidence and skill on display was truly remarkable.

The joy continued throughout the year with our dedicated Choir and Concert Band, who rehearsed diligently and represented our school with enthusiasm and pride. Their performances added so much spirit to our assemblies and special events, and they continue to be a treasured part of our arts culture.

We are incredibly proud of our Instrumental Music Program, which has grown significantly this year. With over 150 students learning an instrument, the enthusiasm for music at our school has never been stronger. This success is only possible thanks to our outstanding team of Instrumental Music teachers. Their passion, expertise and dedication ensure our students receive a rich and engaging musical education. We extend our heartfelt thanks to each of them for their exceptional work.

A sincere thank you also goes to our families and wider school community for your ongoing support of the arts. Your encouragement—whether through attending concerts, helping with costumes, clapping proudly in the audience or simply celebrating your child’s achievements—makes a world of difference.

Finally, we express our deep gratitude to our school administration and leadership team for their continued support and recognition of the value of a strong Performing Arts program. Their commitment ensures that creativity, expression and inclusivity remain at the centre of our students’ learning experiences.

Thank you for being part of an incredible year. We look forward to an exciting 2026 filled with more music, more performances and more opportunities for our students to shine.

Announcing Wakakirri in 2026! 🎆

You may have seen Dr Ian announce on Compass recently that, for the first time ever, Great Ryrie Primary School will be participating in Wakakirri next year! 🎆

What is Wakakirri?

Wakakirri is a nationwide initiative for Australian schools that provides a platform for students to express their thoughts, ideas, and aspirations through the art of storytelling and dance. Inspired by the belief that great stories can inspire change, Wakakirri is designed to promote student engagement and well-being in schools through the creation and performance of captivating Story-Dances.

Who will be involved?

All year levels will be taught the Story-Dance in class (same as Shrek and aligned with the Victorian Curriculum Version 2.0), although parents will need to opt-in for their child to be involved in the official performance in Term 3 (more info to come next year).

You can read more at https://www.wakakirri.com/ or find an introductory video here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gqhnHaGLWMvQP19YwDK9lZ8p21kObuT_/view
