Members who strengthen their communities

First National Real Estate has been part of the Port Augusta community for more than three decades. Throughout that time, Principal Mick Gilbert and his team have built more than a business. They have created a culture of genuine care, local involvement, and steady support for the groups that bind the community together.
Mick’s approach to volunteering is straightforward. He believes clubs survive only when people step up, so he leads by example. His willingness to help began with his children’s interests and has grown into an enduring commitment to the Anderson Dancers community. Whether moving props on a Tuesday night, assisting during performances, or proudly embracing the title of ‘dance dad’, he turns up consistently.
This year, Mick, Kylie, and Asher have each taken on significant roles. They have helped build and manage props, supported backstage, stepped into teaching duties, and done whatever was needed to keep productions running smoothly. Their contribution culminated in Mick personally donating $1,000 to support the Panto production.
Their efforts reflect the spirit that defines so many of our members. They show how local businesses strengthen local communities, not only through service but through genuine, long term involvement.

Co-Principal of FN Tamworth (NSW) David Doherty and David Small of FN Coffs Coast (Coffs Harbour, NSW) returned to the Variety Postie Bike Dash this year, adding another memorable chapter to their long support of the charity. The week began in Forster, where riders gathered for the welcome dinner and witnessed Jon Russell’s induction into the Postie Dash Hall of Fame. It set an upbeat tone for the days ahead.
Each day on the Dash brought something different. Our riders joined fellow riders for breakfasts at regional schools, where they presented grants that will deliver lasting benefits. Children ran out to meet the group as they arrived in playgrounds, a reminder of why the Dash matters. The route wound through forests, across ridges and into coastal country towns, with communities offering warm hospitality at every stop.
The event raised more than $380,000 to help children who are sick, facing disadvantage or living with a disability. More than $24,000 in grants were delivered directly to schools and communities along the way, and 13 new bikes were handed over through the Bikes for Kids programme.
David Doherty’s commitment stood out. As the highest individual fundraiser, he contributed more than $16,000, reflecting the strength of his relationships and the respect he has earned among supporters. His efforts helped lift his team - The Postie Dogs - to another strong fundraising result and added to a week defined by generosity, good humour and community spirit.
Both agent’s participation again highlights the difference our members make when they put their time, energy and networks behind a cause that strengthens communities.
