From The Team

Hi Year 5/6 Families!

The past two weeks have flown by! We began with many of our students participating in Hoop Time, and the 5/6 teachers couldn’t be prouder of their sportsmanship. They played exceptionally well and put their best effort into each game. We would like to extend a special thank you to our fantastic parents and staff: Amy, Shak, Megan, Kristy, Hayley, Felicity, Mel, Aaron, Leesa, Josh, Julie, Miss Harper and Miss Whittington, who coached and scored throughout the day.

This week, we had an incredible time in Ballarat at our Sovereign Hill Camp. It was three days filled with fun, excitement and learning. Highlights included educational sessions about the Goldfields (Living in the Past and Gold Fever), a gold pouring demonstration, a candy making demonstration, a visit to the Red Hill Mine, a trip to the movies to see Inside Out 2 and watching a pantomime. The 5/6 team is so proud of how our students represented Scoresby PS and consistently demonstrated our Scoresby HEART Values.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

- Jordyn, Sarah and Tracy

Homework

Since Camp Week is done, homework is back to normal! On Monday of Week 5, students will be given a new maths grid and writing task, along with doing their usual reading homework, which is 20 minutes of reading every school night. This fortnightly homework will be due on the Friday of Week 6.

Hoop Time

On Tuesday the 30th of July, most of the 5/6 students from our school gathered at the State Basketball Centre to compete at the 2024 Hoop Time competition. Representing Scoresby Primary School, there were 2 Rookies teams, 2 Future Stars teams, and 2 All Star teams of opposite genders. When we arrived at the State Basketball Centre, everyone got ready for the day. The All Star Boys team came second in their group, and so did the Future Stars 2 team. In the end, we all had a blast. When we got back to school, we watched the Australian Basketball Team compete at the Olympics. Thank you Josh for organising Hoop Time for our school. We would also like to thank Miss Whittington, Miss Harper, Julie, and all of our parent helpers.

Mini Olympics

On Friday 2nd of August, we hosted our Scoresby Mini Olympics, kicking off with an inspiring Opening Ceremony that included a wonderful Acknowledgement of Country by our School Captains. Each cohort then proudly paraded with their hand-made Olympic torches, adding to the excitement and spirit of the event. The School and House Captains did an excellent job organising and running each activity smoothly. Students had a fantastic time participating in a variety of events such as equestrian, swimming, volleyball, long jump, shot put, basketball, discus, soccer, and the ever-popular egg-and-spoon race. It was a memorable day filled with fun, teamwork, and excellent sportspersonship!
