2024
Our seven weeks with 3/4S came to an end last week. What a fabulous group of chefs we had in this class and hopefully they can take some of their kitchen skills home and use them more frequently to help their families.
In the garden we have been busy moving some of our fruit trees from one end of the orchard to the other. We wanted to make space for some new Bush Tucker trees and herbs that I was able to purchase with the money I received last year when we were awarded the Best Edible Garden Award. Hopefully these can flourish and we can create our own, special “Bush Tucker area”. These plants included Finger Limes, Gumbi Gumbi and a Burdekin Plum.
Our final kitchen class meant we got to cook our famous vegetarian pizzas, spinach dip, a winter beans salad and rhubarb and lemon muffins for our dessert on the way out. These were so tasty and included rhubarb from the garden. We also thanked and farewelled our fabulous parent helpers who had given up their time to help the students in the kitchen. Special thanks to Jo (Mali’s Mum), Denise (Jayden’s Mum), Ashleigh (Savannah’s Mum), Asesye (Eli’s Mum), Joelle (Jacqueline’s Mum), Katie (Kelsey’s Mum), Sesil (Marcus’ Mum), Jenny (Jayden L’s Mum) and Jim (Alexi’s Dad). Now we look forward to starting our seven week journey with 3/4D.
Arigatou!

Student Reflections:
Today was my last cooking session. During these 7 weeks, I had learnt how to improve my knife safety and that making food is really enjoyable. Especially if you and people you like are making it. During the four weeks of gardening, I had picked and planted but the majority of the time I was weeding the gardens. For my last week of SAKGP/cooking, I was in the bread group making Rhubarb and Lemon Cupcakes. For the main meal, we have vegetable pizza. The parents who helped with cooking and some people who came to watch for part of the 7 weeks were Jo, Denise, Aseye, Jenny, Katie, Joelle, Sesil, Nikki Sensai, Laura, Melissa, Mrs Siegert, Ashleigh, and Jim. A really big thanks to Mrs Siegert and the staff, all of this would not be possible without her. And of course the parents who helped manage everything. By Ethan P
In the last seven weeks I learnt how to cut silverbeet, how to peel and cut a cucumber, how to rub butter, how to cut squishy food and how to grate lemons . Those who helped me were Laura, Ashleigh, Melissa, Jenny and Niki Sensei. Last week I helped plant some plants for our bush tucker garden. Savannah
Today was our last week of cooking. We made vegetarian pizza, Rhubarb and lemon cupcakes, winter vegetable salad and creamy spinach dip.The last couple weeks it has been so much fun. Jo was helping for the last couple of weeks. But today Katie was helping too. Thank you Mrs Siegert for preparing this program. For the first year it was a lot of fun. By Alannah
Today we made vegetarian pizza, rhubarb and lemon cupcakes, winter vegetable salad and creamy spinach dip. Over the past few weeks I have felt more confident to cut at home. Today I learnt not to rub your eyes when they hurt or they are watering when you're near onions. Thank you Mrs Siegert for making this happen and so we can eat all this yummy food. The past few weeks have been awesome. By Victoria

Today my group made vegetarian pizza and my mum Jenny came today. The ingredients were mushrooms, onions, cheese and the pizza bread. The annoying part was the onions because they made me cry. Thank you Mrs Siegert for teaching us how to cook, cut and harvest but this is my last day doing cooking because I'm a year 4. I hope you have fun cooking with the year 3/ 4 next year. You helped me improve on cutting and cooking. Jaden
Today we made rhubarb and lemon muffins.Today was our last day and as a grade 4 this was my last one forever. Cooking was very fun and I learnt how to use knives and not cut myself. Now I know how to cook properly. I wasn’t here for 4 weeks of cooking because I was on holiday but it was still very fun. From Shenan.
I made the vegetable winter salad for week 7. I now have learnt new skills in cooking like cutting, grating, harvesting, slicing, washing and picking food in the gardens. I did this 14 times last year and this year. I love to get my hands dirty with feta cheese. Well, this is my last time cooking so I might practise at home too. From Jayden.L
Today was the last day of SAKG forever because I’m in year four. We created winter vegetable salad today and I’ve got better at all the skills you need to cook. With all the helpers Laura, Melissa, Jo, Denise, Aseye, Jenny, Katie, Joelle, My Mum, Ashleigh, Jim, Nikki Sensei and the helper who did everything for us. Mrs. Siegert came to SAKG to help us create lovely foods and I learnt so much that I use the skills to create food at home. I loved doing cooking and wish I can do it again in Year five and six. Thank you Mrs. Siegert for letting us free to cook at school. By Marcus L
It's the last week of cooking and we made rhubarb and lemon muffins which were so much fun to make and I couldn't stop eating the batter and I hope that next week will be even more fun. By Mali
Today we made pizza and it made me cry because I rubbed my eyes with onion. It hurt but Melisa helped me. I learnt how to use a knife and how to spread pizza tomato sauce. Thank you Mrs Siegert for letting us do gardening and helping us cook. By Jordan W
Over the course of 7 weeks I have learnt how to cut with a knife, slicing, harvesting and cooking. I have REALLY enjoyed the 7 weeks. Today I made the salad. The salad is a winter vegetable salad. I helped Nathan get some lettuce out in the garden when we needed some for the salad. This is my last time doing SAKG and I really liked all the food that we have made over 7 weeks. By Anita
Today I made the salad and it wouldn't be able to happen without you and all the helpers. I had a wonderful time cooking this year and I hope to do it with you again. Since the start of cooking I feel way more comfortable to cut and do other stuff. I now have the confidence to cook at home with my parents. I have had lots of fun. From Nath
