“A Day of Sporting Excellence and the Inaugural Clayfield College Gift”
Students gathered for the 2024 Interhouse Athletics Championships in full spirit at the University of Queensland Athletics Centre on Wednesday 17 July. The event highlighted a spectacular display of sportsmanship, as students competed for house points, vying for the Championship trophy.
From the adrenaline-pumping sprints to the endurance-testing 1500m, the championships offered something for every house enthusiast. The mesmerising high jump and the precision-demanding long and triple jumps showcased the boys' and girls' skill and determination. The throws events were equally captivating, with the shot put, discus, and javelin competitions highlighting the power and technique for our specialist throwers.
Whether it was the explosive energy of the sprinters or the strength and precision of the throwers, this year's championships truly had it all. But what made this year's event even more special was the running of the Clayfield College Gift, a handicapped race featuring the fastest runner from each age group vying for the coveted title. This year's winner stormed down the track at lightning speed, and we had to resort to a photo finish to determine the winner, Madison Morris. Congratulations, Madi!
As the sun set on the University of Queensland Athletics Centre, the championships concluded, leaving behind memories of a competition that brought the Secondary School community together. As athletes and staff departed, they carried with them the experiences of a day that captured the essence of sportsmanship, friendly competition, and house spirit. The Champion House and Age Champions will be announced at the next Sports Assembly.
All student-athletes selected for a QGSSSA representative team are required to attend all mandatory training sessions and scheduled competitions. If there is a legitimate reason for being unable to attend, it is essential to communicate with the respective Sport Coordinator and CC Sport department.
To excel as a student-athlete, individuals must embody the Clayfield College values both on and off the field. Students are expected to take pride in their personal appearance and the school uniform. Each student is a representative of the College.
Accordingly, students must behave in a manner which upholds the reputation of the college and must not do anything which may bring the college into disrepute. Students must arrive in the college's full sports uniform, applicable to their activity. All uniforms must be clean and in good repair. For cooler weather the following items may be worn:
Please note: No plain clothes items or other uniform items can be worn, including Senior jerseys or Boarders jumpers. No crocs or slides are to be worn and jewellery regulations must be adhered to.
