In the last article we outlined some of the outstanding achievements in sport in 2024, particularly putting a spotlight on the significant improvements of our performance during the School Sports Victoria (SSV) Athletics competition. Heading to the region stage of the competition we were quietly confident our students would be competitive and relish the increased skill level of the athletes at this stage of the competition.
Within our Southern Metropolitan Secondary College region there are 63 schools. Cranbourne East Secondary College finished in 23rd overall, finishing above local sports schools. Throughout the day there were some huge performances with numerous students setting personal bests. At the conclusion of the day, we ended up with 4 students qualify for the Victorian State Athletics Championships across 5 events. The highest amount of students CESC has ever had qualify. Billie Greyling brought home the silver medal in the 12-13 javelin, and Keerat Dohdy bringing home the bronze medal in the 15-year-old javelin. Congratulations to Arianna Ramchander and Pavneet Birring who also put in some excellent performances. We look forward to seeing these students develop and build on their achievements this year.
With no division sport in Term 4, our focus was on the two teams that qualified for the region stage of the competition from our Term 3 sports. The first team in action was the Intermediate Girls basketball team. unfortunately, a number of key injuries to some important players contributed to the challenge ahead of the girls. It was a great experience for the team and i am sure their resilience and togetherness will stand them in good stead in 2025. We also had our Year 8 boys and girls table tennis teams in action, who also experienced some injuries prior to competition. Once again, the increased level of competition provided a great insight into the levels required to progress to the state championships.
Congratulations to all the CESC students who have participated in Inter school Sport in 2024, it gives us great pleasure seeing students showcase their skills and talents and carry themselves in a way that upholds the values of the college. We look forward to continuing to grow sport at CESC in 2025.
