Chinese News  中文新闻

Our LOTE-Chinese program has been an exciting journey for students from Prep to Year 6 this term. Each year level has been engaging in unique and culturally enriching activities tailored to their learning stage.

Prep: Numbers 1-10 and My Family 数字一到十和我的家

Our Prep learners have been introduced to the world of numbers in Chinese. They’ve practised counting and recognising numbers from 1 to 10 with specific hand gestures, along with learning to talk about their families. This foundation is helping them to build both their numeracy skills and ability to express themselves in Chinese.

Year 1&2: Numbers and Colours 数字和颜色

Students in Years 1 and 2 have expanded their vocabulary by learning to describe the world around them with numbers and colours in Chinese. Through reading the mentor texts, playing games, singing the songs and participating in interactive activities, they are not only mastering these basic concepts but also developing confidence in using Chinese in everyday contexts.

Year 3&4: Sports in Chinese 运动

This term, the focus for Year 3 and 4 students has been on sports, with a special spotlight on the Summer Olympic events held in Pairs this year. They have learned the names of various sports and athletic activities in Chinese, enhancing their language skills while also gaining cultural insights into how sports are celebrated internationally.

Year 5&6: International Food 国际美食

For our Year 5 and 6 learners, this term has been all about exploring the rich diversity of international cuisine. They’ve learned how to discuss different food and ingredients, as well as culinary traditions around the world. This exploration has broadened their understanding of global cultures and how food is important in bringing people together.

I am incredibly proud of our students' enthusiasm and progress in the LOTE-Chinese classrooms. There will be more highlights to share with our school community later this term.
