A certificate II qualification is located at level 2 of the Australian Qualification framework. It allows the qualifying individual to undertake mainly routine work in addition to creating a pathway to further learning. We currently have 28 students enrolled in Cert II Community Service and the progress made both in learning and engagement have been quite remarkable. In mid-2024 academic year, majority of the participating students are on steady course to complete all the required 10 units for the award of the qualification.
Through this program, students are obtaining invaluable insights into the dynamics of the community services sector and cultivating ethical practices integral to their anticipated roles. Students are also developing a versatile skill set encompassing communication proficiency, adept information management, administrative support capabilities, a strong sense of cultural and social awareness and the ability to provide support to members of the community.
The units, studied so far, have focused students learning along the lines of an awareness of social and cultural needs of a multicultural Australia; plan and manage individual work activities and stress in the workplace; some of the challenges and opportunities inherent in teamwork: and the imperatives of communicating effectively with service users in the community.
Upon completion, it is anticipated that students will emerge sufficiently equipped not only to contribute meaningfully to community development but also to navigate the complexities of community services with confidence and professionalism
Above all, students who are deemed to have partially or fully completed the required units of the course should reasonably expect that these would count towards the determination of the completion and award of both the VPC and VCE (VM).
