Sydney Canberra Education Tour
43 Students from The King’s College recently travelled to Sydney and Canberra on our Education Tour. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage, and democracy. In Sydney, students visited Taronga Zoo, walked around Bondi Beach, walked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge and went out for dinner next to the Sydney Opera House. When in Canberra, students visited New Parliament House, Old Parliament House, the National Gallery, The National Museum, The Australian War Memorial, ANZAC Parade, Questacon and many other venues. We were delighted to be co-hosted at Parliament House by our local Member of Parliament, the Honourable Madeleine King, and Western Australian Senator, the Honourable Matthew O’Sullivan. Some students and staff were even lucky enough to get a handshake from the Australian Prime Minister, The Honourable Mr Anthony Albanese.
We thank all the families who supported the tour. It’s also important to acknowledge the contribution of our government towards the tour. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government contributed $510 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program. We also appreciate the staff who supported the tour. Thank you to Mrs Best, Mr O’Malley, Ms Naidoo, Mr ‘t Hart and Ms Rudd.
The College looks forward to the 2026 Sydney Canberra Education Tour. An information evening will be held in 2025 with the details. Current Year 7-9 students (Year 9 to 11 in 2026) will be invited to attend this tour. The tour is a fantastic opportunity for young students to experience both travel, History, Science and Politics in a safe and enjoyable environment.
Interhouse Athletics Carnival
The Secondary Inter-house Athletics Carnival took place during Week 2, where all students participated in a fun day of events, including both track and field. The weather proved challenging; however, all students, staff, parents and guardians toughed out the rain and still got involved when possible. It was also good to see many students sporting their house colours with pride and earning house points during the day.
Many of our students were able to showcase their talents in either running, jumping or throwing events. Champion medals and house results will be provided in the upcoming Assembly. Students who competed well in each event, will be attending the ACC Inter-School Athletics Competition in Week 7 to compete against other schools.
The success of this event wouldn't have been possible without the dedication and hard work of our PE Department and all staff who completed their roles and supported the competition. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to them for their efforts in making the day a success, even with regard to the cold and wet weather conditions.
