This week in Literacy we have been working on the comprehension strategy questioning. It is important when we read, to understand what we are reading. A good way to show you are thinking about what you are reading and showing you understand is to ask questions before we read, during reading and after we read. We have also learnt about characters and their inside traits and outside characteristics, speaking like the character would. We have worked on the long vowel sounds and our most common words too.
In Numeracy we have continued our word on place value, using numbers to 100. We have had fun learning about the Olympics, counting how many medals Australia is winning and ordinal number as in who came first, second or third. We have learnt about France and are learning how to say hello, goodbye and thank you in French! After the Olympics finish we will learn about the Paralympics.
We planted two trees in the school grounds for National Tree Day and learnt why trees are so important to look after. We finished the week by joining in with Bunyip Primary Schools 'Olympics' with our cross age groups on Fiday. Ask your child what their favourite activity was.
Thank you to all the parents who booked Parent/ Teacher interview times. It was lovely to share with you, the incredible progress your amazing children are making. Remember my door is always open to you. Feel free to pop in at any time.
Over the next two weeks we will be swimming every morning. Please ensure you are at school on time as the bus will leave. Also refer to the note that was emailed to all parents to help our swimming program run smoothly. All students will line up outside Room 4 as usual to mark the roll then the non swimmers will go to Room 2 with Ms Stoll.

Well done to Logan, who was voted in by his classmates for showing our school values of respect, responsibility and resilience. Logan has been having fun with our class teddy Lucky and completed all the special jobs in the classroom. He has also sat on a special table with friends of his choosing. We are all super duper proud of you Logan.

Curriculum
This week we have been continuing our letter sound knowledge and focusing on long vowel sounds. This includes trigraphs such as /air/ and /eigh/ and digraphs such as /er/ and even split digraphs. When reading, students have revised predicting using features of the text and even forming questions before and while reading.
When writing, students have continued to use the TOCRE structure to plan their narratives using media clips to gain ideas for their own stories. When writing, we have continued to explore adding detail to their settings and characters to paint an image for their target audience while also separating our Orientation, Complication and Resolution using paragraphs. Students have also been exploring using THRASS charts to help spell unfamiliar words as part of our spelling lessons.
In Maths, students have continued to participate in addition and subtraction lessons. This includes adding and subtracting numbers vertically and recognising number combinations that make 10. Students loved playing card games where they had 9 cards to choose from and had to add and subtract them to make 10. For example 9 + 7 - 6 = 10.
Students have enjoyed beginning to learn about the Olympics and it's origin and have begun to form questions about what they want to know including the different sports, colours of uniforms and their meaning and even who are some famous Australian Olympians.
Aside from this, we have revised our classroom expectations and what it means to be Ready to Learn. We have developed our own whole class Ready to Learn plan to which has helped students to identify ways we can support our own learning and wellbeing.

Congratulation on Sidney for being our student of the week for showing fantastic Respect and Responsibility. Keep up the fantastic effort.
A big thank you to all the parents who booked a Parent Teacher interview. It was fantastic to be able to share your child's progress. As next week is swimming week, our program will look slightly different over the next two weeks. An email went out in regards to what to bring from Mrs Guy and how to support your child in preperation, such as getting dressed independently after each lesson. If you have not received this, please let us know. Also if you would like to attend and support on the day, please check Compass for times and requirements.
Kind Regards
John Wigg

What a wild start to the term we've had! Our first day back at school felt so lovely and now two weeks on from the BER flood, we are finally finding our groove again. Our students have been oh, so resilient. We moved temporarily to the science room and then into room 2. This is where we will stay until our usual classroom is back up and running. Fingers crossed this happens sooner rather than later. I have ensured to check in with all students frequently about the big change and have done my very best to ensure our temporary classroom feels comfortable and familiar.
In reading we have been learning about various sounds and comprehension strategies, from reviewing short and long vowel sounds, to exploring predicting and questioning comprehension strategies. In writing we have been using our Thrass charts to 'Thrass it out' words, such as isolating sounds within a word and finding the sound on the Thrass chart. We have also explored TOEC, an acronym used to write recount pieces of writing. We learnt that TOEC stands for The Orangutan Eats Carrots (Or alternatively; Title, Orientation, Events and Conclusion)... But The Orangutan Eats Carrots does sound way cooler. In maths we have reviewed and wrapped up our learning surrounding addition and subtraction (for now) and will begin to explore sharing and groups of. This leads us into our unit about multiplication and division. Aside from English and Mathematics, we have explored National Tree Day, our classroom expectations and the Zones of Regulation and the Summer Paris Olympics. We will continue to explore the Paris Olympics over the coming weeks and then the Paralympics when they begin.

A note from Miss Stoll
Thank-you to the parents that had availability to book and come to a parent teacher interview. It was lovely to touch base once again. If you didn't attend an appointment, you should have heard from me via email. As always, please email me or reach out to the school if you wish to organise a time to meet up. Don't forget, we start swimming next week. At the moment, I will be staying at school with the students not attending swimming, this may change throughout the duration of swimming however I have let our students know this so as they feel prepared. Tracey will be attending with our class and there will also be lots of support and familiar faces on the bus and at the pool to support students. Our curriculum will look a little different during swimming, we will still cover English, Mathematics and Integrated Studies concepts, our day's may just look a little different than usual due to swimming taking up a large part of our day (and energy!).
Thank-you for your time.
Kindest regards,
Kate.
