Year 5/6 Learning Reflection

As part of Literacy Grade 5/6 have been reading a wide range of picture story books and learning about the structure of a narrative. The students have been identifying the lead, beginning, ending and then discovering the series of events in between.

The series of events helps them understand the theme - friendship, belonging, persistence, bravery, acceptance, survival, difference or good vs evil.

They then used their knowledge of the structure to help them compose 'Bookies' - narratives they created themselves.

The students were given illustrations and orally discussed the order to help sort the beginning, end and events in between. Next, they stuck the pictures down, planned the text and published their own narratives.

As part of our Unit of Work, Grade 5/6 have been reading the script for our production The Giant Jam Sandwhich and finding out about which role individual students have and which scene our own class has.

When learning about Multiplication and Division as part of Maths, students have been using concrete materials, number sentences, picture representations and learning about what a factor is to help solve problems.

Discovering factors of 36!

Grade 6 were in charge of an event. They needed to come up with as many ways as possible to arrange 36 chairs in a theatre in equal rows and columns.

They quickly discovered that they were exploring the factors of 36.
