David's Message

Dear Sunshine Heights Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 3. I hope each of you has spent a restful holiday; unfortunately mine was somewhat side-swept by the flu, and this year it really knocked me hard. This is a great reminder to all of us that there are a few illnesses going around at the moment, and with this colder weather it is important we stay warm, and remember to bring coats, hats and jumpers to school.

You may have seen my post earlier in the week about Breakfast Club. Breakfast Club is an essential service for us, with food donated from Food Bank and served every morning by our amazing parent volunteers. Marlo Crawley, our Breakfast Club coordinator is a great person to chat to if you are interested in volunteering. The service lasts for about 30 minutes from set up at 8:35am through to clean up at around 9am, and means all our students can access cereal, toast and fruit, as well as the occasional hot Milo. If you are interested in volunteering, particularly on a Monday where we have a spare spot, please chat to Marlo. We do have some key rules for breakfast club to ensure plates, bowls and spoons are not lost, and that our school stays tidy:

  • All food is to remain in the breakfast club area to be eaten
  • Bowls, Cups and Spoons must be returned to the dirty dish basket by students
  • All litter and rubbish must go into the bins provided in the Breakfast Club seating area
  • Food stops serving at 8:55am and is not allowed into classrooms

If you attend breakfast club with your child, please help us out by reminding them of the above expectations.

In the upcoming weeks we will be working to raise funds for four of our grade 6 students to go to the National Finals of the FUSE Cup. In order to raise money we will be raffling off a Nintendo Switch donated by the FUSE Cup Team, as well as other prizes. This competition is set against both Independent and Public sector schools, and for our students to have won the regional round is a huge deal. Keep your eyes peeled for students selling raffle tickets in the next few weeks.

Finally, a huge thank you to our community for supporting us by purchasing books form the Younger Sun Pop-Up Bookshop at Parent Teacher Interviews. We have over $800 of new books going to the library to support our students, for which we are incredibly grateful. We know that times are tough at the moment, and so this generosity is especially appreciated.

Some upcoming events to keep an eye out for are: Science Week, Book Week, Father's Day, plus Swimming for our Prep - 2 students.

We look forward to an amazing term together with some big whole school events to come!

Best wishes,

David and the Sunny Heights Team
