Curriculum Day - 12th August - student free day. Teachers will be at school learning about the new Maths Curriculum!

Hello Level 3 families,

We are so grateful for all your support during swimming, it's been a big 2 weeks. Thank you to all our parent helpers and a special thank you to the parents who came on the bus and to the pool to help even though their children were sick and not swimming. We so appreciated the help.

Reminders

It is very important to bring diaries to class each day. Notes and reminders are often written in there by teachers. Please have a good look at home if your child's is lost.

What can you do at home?

Spelling: Please see below for Week 5 Spelling words. As students won't be here on Monday, we won't be putting them in diaries.

Learning

Literacy - Writing

Students have been brainstorming ideas to create their own information report. Their planning includes what group or category their chosen topic belongs to and what they will include in their description. When writing their information report, students have included their introduction, description and conclusion. We have learnt a lot about their interests! We will soon start working with a new mentor text Under the Southern Cross.

Literacy - Reading

In reading, we are diving into the world of poetry! We’re discovering different types of poems and the special words and sounds they use. We’ve been breaking down poems to find stanzas and looking up new words to help us understand them better. We will continue looking at poetry but with a focus on making inferences.

Maths

In math, we’ve been having fun learning about fractions. Students are comparing different fractions by making them with strips of paper and other shapes. We’re also talking about the parts of a fraction: the numerator and the denominator. We will shortly begin exploring fractions of time.

Inquiry / ERP

Olympic fever is in the air! In Grade 3, we are enjoying learning about the history of the Olympic Games and exploring geography related to the Olympics. Over the next few weeks, we will focus on the Olympic spirit, celebrating diversity and inclusivity. Let’s get excited to cheer on athletes from around the world!

Wellbeing + Respectful Relationships + Cyber safety

During our lessons on wellbeing, students have been discussing how gender roles are shown in traditional fairy tales and comparing them to modern stories. We’ve also talked about using the internet to consume content versus creating our own content using the software Paint. We will shortly be looking into what gender-based violence can look, sound and feel like at school, as well as having discussions around how to manage our time and evaluate our use of technology.

Science

Science got off to a great start, with lots of exploration in how to ask Science questions and identifying where Science is used. Students got to feel objects in a mystery box and try and work out what the object was based on descriptions and questions. We look forward to learning about the Solar System in the weeks to come.
