Level 2: Connect

We have had a fantastic start to the term! The students' excitement about the Olympics has been so wonderful, with many eagerly discussing memorable sporting moments or sharing what they watched that morning. It has been fantastic to see them so enthusiastic about this event and all the learning opportunities it brings.

Swimming starts next week. So please remember to pack swimmers, cap and a towel. You could include an extra snack as swimming always makes kids hungry afterwards.

A big thank you to all the parents/carers who have volunteered their time to help at the pool. Your time is greatly appreciated!

Writing

Our students will dive into the world of poetry and become budding poets. They will begin to learn various poetic techniques and use their expanding vocabularies to write poems in different genres. They will create rhyming noun poems and discover how verbs and adjectives can add power to their work. Students will identify rhyming patterns and suggest ideas for new verses. They'll brainstorm ideas for themed poems, enhancing their creative writing skills and deepening their understanding and appreciation of poetry.

Reading

Over the next few weeks, our students will be exploring poetry in depth. They will express their personal views about poems through discussion and dialogue, gaining an understanding of new vocabulary. Students will also delve into a poet's choice of words and phrases, learning how simple expressions can set a scene and bring characters to life. By examining different forms of poetry, they will appreciate the power of words and their meanings, enhancing their literary skills and creative expression.

Remember books are allocated to your child to read each week on 'Wushka.' Students can also take home books from the classroom if they prefer a hard book.

Spelling

We have been reviewing the floss rule in spelling. When a one-syllable word ends in f, l, or s, we double the final letter to follow the floss spelling rule. For example, in words like “sniff,” “fall,” and “mess,” the final f, l, or s is doubled. This rule helps ensure the correct spelling of these words. We call it the "floss spelling rule" because the word "floss" itself follows this rule, and it includes the letters f, l, and s to make it easier to remember. This simple guideline can help students spell many common words correctly.

Maths

In our upcoming maths lessons, students will learn to tell the time to half past, quarter past, and quarter to the hour. They will also learn how to describe locations using half and quarter turns. By combining these skills, students will be able to navigate and give directions more effectively, enhancing their understanding of both time and spatial relationships.
