From the Principal

Even though this week is our officially calendared week of Music and Drama, it would be remiss of me not to celebrate our College’s annual performance at St George's Cathedral which took place last week. The St George’s Cathedral Concert is part of the ‘Concerts at One’ series and this year our Chamber Choir, Senior Flute Ensemble, Senior Voices, Barbershop, Cello Trio, Senior String Quintet, Year 9 Wind Quintet and selected soloists all performed beautifully. It was a real pleasure to join parents, grandparents and the broader community in celebrating the depth of musical talent we are blessed to have at our College.

Given music and drama are so embedded in our College culture it seems a little disingenuous to highlight their importance during one designated week. As way of example, it would be equally remiss of me to not celebrate the variety concert held last Friday during John XXIII Day.

What about the tightly choreographed House dance routines involving enthusiastic Year 12 students and staff, all adorned in costume designed for maximum effect I might add, which signaled the start of our Secondary School Athletics Carnival?

Most weeks feature music and drama opportunities for our students to enjoy, and this week we have continued our celebration of music and drama with our Music Eisteddfod (I counted 260 music performances over the two days of the Eisteddfod) Jazz Night at the Ellington, 5-minute musicals on the Chapel Lawn, band performances in the Pavilion, and Homeroom quizzes. In the Primary School, final preparations are well advanced for the upcoming Year 4 Musical, Feathers Fly – Birds the Musical, with grandparents invited to enjoy the dress rehearsal today; and what a rehearsal it turned out to be!

I extend my thanks to our College Music and Drama staff for their expert organisation of Music and Drama Week and for the myriad of music and drama opportunities available to our community. I also extend my thanks to the students across the College who so enthusiastically participate in our various music and drama offerings throughout the year.
