Chromebook Purchase Information
Dear Parents / Carers,
The use of Chromebooks at St John's aims to increase the level of productivity, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication opportunities for our students.
The purchase of a personal digital learning tool, 'Chromebook', is compulsory for all children in Grade 3 in 2025.
Our provider is Learning with Technology. LWT has set up a portal for the purchase, payment options, servicing, insurance and warranty options for our specified Chromebook. All Chromebook orders will be delivered to St John's at the start of the school year so they can be enrolled into our school domain. Once they are enrolled in the school domain they will be handed out to students. Any student in Grade 4-6 who needs a Chromebook may also order one through LWT.
In 2025, we will continue with the existing device allocations; school-based devices from P-2 and 1:1 parent-purchased devices from 3-6. We will be introducing a small technology levy in P-2 to help with regular upgrading and purchasing of Chomebooks, iPads and robotics for the P-2 to have available for use at different times.
In 2026, that levy will extend to P-3. Grade 3 parents will not have to purchase a Chromebook for their child for 2026, the school will allocate a school device to each Grade 3 student and that device will remain at school and be governed by a contract of use. Therefore, only Grade 4 parents in future will need to purchase a Chromebook for their child to use in Grade 4-6.
Amongst other benefits, this change will allow us to moderate technology usage better for the Grade 3s and also consider offering a Chromebook buyback scheme for those students leaving Grade 6 who have a device in good working order and who may need to purchase a different device for secondary school.
Orders should be made by 16th of December and will be delivered in the first week of Term 1 2025. Orders made after 16th December will arrive after Week 1. Lay-by is available. Please read the pamphlet from Learning With Technologies.
The current cost of the school's nominated Chromebook is $486.45, which includes the device, a hard case and the Google management license for the school domain. Insurance and extended warranty items are optional extras. Parents are advised to check their own Contents Insurance to see if you can add a device to it for a minimal charge.
Finance is available through a 3rd party finance company. Parents should be aware that if this process is used and payments are not made in time, hefty interest rates may apply.
