What do you want to do when you leave school?
Something Medicine based.
Best study tip you use?
Don't waste your time studying things you know. Get a little notebook with study notes (Just the things you don't know) for all of your subjects so you don't need to carry all your books around at exam time.
When do you most like to study? Why?
I find it easier at night with some music. I just find it more peaceful and I also like to just have some time off right after school.
What are you most looking forward to this year?
Fortnite Chapter 2 OG season making its return!
What would you spend your last $20 on?
Realistically I'd probably get a couple of large grimace shakes and maybe some fries.
Exam block starts next week for our students in Years 7-11 and runs from Wednesday 20 November to Wednesday 27 November.
Students in Years 5-10 will all remain at school throughout the assessment period. The only cohort who are granted study leave (to study at home and only come to campus for scheduled assessments) is Years 10-11. Any student not up to date with all the required assessment items will not be granted study leave and will be required to remain at school. This includes modules for Certificate and Diploma courses.
A reminder that if students are absent for an exam, a medical certificate is to be submitted for all year levels. Year 11 medical certificates must list the specific illness and not just state “medical condition”. Please also note that no exams will be sat prior to the scheduled exam block date. If your son misses his exam, he will make this up or be provided with an NR (no result) for that assessment item. We ask that you organise appointments outside of these dates and remain at school until the completion of the school year. If you are leaving early, you must complete an Early Departure form.
Last week, Marist celebrated the first-ever Spelling Week, with games, competitions and a fantastic turnout from both students and staff. Every morning kicked off with a Spelling Race, where students tuned into words read over the loudspeaker and raced to submit them at different locations around the school. With 94% student involvement, the competition was fierce, as pastoral groups battled to come out on top.
Wednesday's assembly featured an exciting teacher vs. student showdown, where teachers faced off against students in a fast-paced spelling challenge. It was close, that came down to the final word – spell the longest word that you know how to. With the word ‘antidisestablishmentarianism’, Xavier Howard clutched the win for Team Students.
The main event, the Spelling Bee, took place on Friday during Break 1, drawing an impressive crowd of 373 boys from across all 8 houses. Throughout the break, students enjoyed games like Heads or Tails, Word Scramble, and Speed Spelling, keeping the excitement high and minds sharp. After several rounds of intense competition, Harold House took the win!
Thank you to all the students who participated and all the teachers who participated and supported all the events!
Congratulations to Year 12 students on completing their external assessment block! Over the last three weeks, the 2024 Marist College Ashgrove cohort sat 34 exams across 28 subjects. The boys were well prepared and worked hard to ensure they gave their best effort in every paper. Well done Year 12s!
From 9 am on Wednesday 11 December 2024, Year 12 students who have completed a QCAA subject in 2024 can access their final subject results and SEP (Student Education Profile) from their learning account in the Student Portal via the myQCE website at https://myqce.qcaa.qld.edu.au. Depending on students’ individual circumstances, their SEP will comprise one or more of the following documents:
From 9:00am on Friday 13 December, 2024 ATARs will be available from students’ ATAR accounts – www.qtac.edu.au. While students should have already signed into these accounts, if they haven’t, they will need their full name, date of birth, LUI number and personal email address ready to set up their account.
After ATARs are released, students can seek advice on QTAC applications by contacting Ms Jen Smeed at smeedj@marash.qld.edu.au or Mr Adam Knight at knighta@marash.qld.edu.au.
With assignments due it is important that students are reminded about the nature of academic integrity. All students in the Middle School have completed an Academic Integrity course as part of their ASH lesson. This course taught our students about effective academic practices, ways to improve their work as well as understanding academic misconduct (particularly plagiarism and the use of AI) and how to avoid this.
In ASH lessons, Year 10 students are currently completing their QCAA Academic Integrity course. This is a requirement for a student in Queensland to obtain their QCE, and our boys must complete it by Monday of next week (18 November) if they are to be afforded exam block privileges. In other words, any Year 10 student who has not completed the course by Monday will remain at school in Weeks 8 and 9.
Please continue to work with your son to ensure that the work he submits is his own. Failure to do so is academic misconduct.
