Deputy Principal / Religious Education
Dear Parents and Families
It is hard to believe we are at the end of another year. Our students have grown, and our teachers have worked hard to ensure every child has improved themselves academically, socially, and spiritually. We pride ourselves to help all students strive to be the best they can. Like us, we hope you have seen these positive changes throughout the year.
When you read your child’s end of year school report don't forget to tell them how proud you are of their achievements and give positive encouragement where it is needed. When you take interest in what they do they will strive even harder. Be proud of what they have accomplished; we certainly are.
We have recently celebrated the beginning of Advent. At a time when the rest of the world is speeding up and everything becomes more frenzied than ever before Advent reminds us to slow down. In Sunday's gospel Jesus says “Watch yourselves, so that your hearts are not weighted down by debauchery and drunkenness and the carers of life and that day comes upon you unexpectedly” (Luke 21:34). Jesus wants us to have a certain spiritual lightness, a sense of detachment from the world because we know that our home, our treasure is elsewhere - with him in eternal glory. Advent is a time for waiting and preparation, and a time for hope, joy, and happiness. How will you prepare for the birth of Jesus?
In the past fortnight we have held Advent liturgies in the school auditorium. Our senior leaders have helped to prepare and will run each liturgy for the next 2 weeks.
Last Monday’s liturgy focussed on HOPE. Students listened to a gospel adaptation centered on being hope filled and being ‘awake’ to the coming of Jesus at Christmas. Our final liturgy will be held in the auditorium next Monday 16th December at 9am (P-2) and 9:30am (3-6).
Funfields ~ Year 6 Big Day Out!
On Wednesday our year sixes had their 'Big Day Out' at Funfields in Whittlesea. This tradition is a great way for our year 6 leaders to spend a final day of primary school together with their friends and teachers. It was a great day out for all who attended.
School Disco
Today was Disco Day!! Another fun tradition for St Luke's. The kids had a ball (disco ball) dancing to their favourite tunes. Mr Watts has missed his calling. DJ 'Disco Man' Watts was outstanding as our resident DJ for the day. Thank you to Michelle Parr and all volunteers who helped keep the kids well fed and hydrated throughout the disco fest!! Thanks also to Nav Gill for lending us his impressive sound system and light show. It really set the scene.
Farewell Fr. Jackson
It is with sadness we farewell Fr. Jackson at the end of the year. This announcement was made to our parish and school communities just recently, and whilst it came as a bit of a shock and it is sad to say farewell, we are grateful to have had Fr Jackson as part of our community for the past two and half years. Fr Jackson will continue his ministry in the parishes of Sandhurst in Bendigo. Thank you Fr Jackson for your kindness and spiritual guidance, best wishes from us all.
Save the date!!
End of year Mass WEDNESDAY 18TH DECEMBER 9:30AM St Brendan’s Church.
Best wishes for a safe and restful holiday!
Merry Christmas!!!
