Year 5/6
Level Newsletter
And just like that, we have finished our second-to-last week of the year! It has been a fabulous fortnight in 5/6! We have been busy preparing for Graduation - adding the finishing touches to timelines and profile pages, as well as rehearsing the Graduation dance. We spent time cooking mini pizzas with our incredible chef, Julie, which were absolutely delicious, and enjoyed a fun afternoon participating in the Colour Run!
On Monday, we capped off the year with our annual Big Day Out to Luna Park. Our students have worked so incredibly hard all year, so it was a wonderful celebration and opportunity to have fun together. It always makes the SPS staff proud to see how kind, honest and respectful our students are when we go out into the public.
The Rowville Endeavour Award
Last Friday, the Honourable Mr Kim Wells presented the annual Rowville Endeavour Award to Celeste Robinson. Celeste received the award for consistently approaching all classroom tasks with enthusiasm, dedication, and a positive attitude. She has excelled across all areas of the curriculum, earning the respect of both peers and teachers.
In English and Mathematics, Celeste consistently produces work of an exceptionally high standard, performing well above the expected level for Year 6. She is highly respectful and kind to all staff and peers, fostering a positive and inclusive environment in the classroom.
In addition to her academic success, she also excels in ballet, attending The Australian Ballet School. This year, she took on the lead role in her ballet school’s concert, performing as "Clara" in The Nutcracker. Celeste, we couldn’t be more proud of you and your ongoing effort and commitment to your learning. Congratulations on a wonderful achievement!
As we wind down for the year, the 5/6 Team would like to share what we have planned for the upcoming holidays...
Miss Whittington: On the holidays, I am looking forward to spending time with my friends and family for Christmas. Giordan and I have a few special dinners planned at some lovely restaurants such as Entrecôte and The Meat & Wine Co before we head off to Thailand for a couple of weeks of relaxation. I am looking forward to spending time relaxing by the pool, going snorkeling and going for lots of walks along the beach!
Miss Harper: Over the holidays I will be spending Christmas with my family here in Melbourne, and even escaping to the country in Kyabram. On New Year's Eve we will, luckily, be able to see the fireworks from an apartment window in the city, which is very exciting! We’re also planning a last-minute trip to Tasmania to enjoy the views, and get some much needed rest and relaxation. I am very much looking forward to my 6-week break and the sleep-ins!
Mrs Spelman: I am off on my long-awaited Winter Wonderland holiday! We will be visiting Rovaniemi in Finland (the home of Santa Claus), Copenhagen, Paris, London, Stockholm and Helsinki. We have lots of activities planned, such as seeing the Northern Lights and reindeer sleigh rides, as well as Disneyland in Paris and The Lion King in London. When we get back, I will be busy planning and getting ready for my school. I have enjoyed teaching all the 5/6 students this year and I wish them all the best in Year 6 and Year 7.
Julie: I am looking forward to spending time with my son, who is coming down from Queensland for a few weeks over Christmas! I am also looking after his dog Mollie, so we will be going on lots of walks. I am very excited to relax and spend time going out for lunches and catching up with friends and family.
Donna: On the holidays, I am looking forward to spending time with my boys, and catching up with friends. I also hope to spend some time out in the garden.
Alison: I am looking forward to time spent camping at the beach, catching up with family and friends, lots of reading, lots of walking and lots of relaxing. I wish our 5/6 families a wonderful, safe holiday time.
Sam: My family and I don't have much planned for the school holidays. We will have the fun and excitement of shopping for secondary school supplies and uniforms. We have a few fun things planned...a day at one of Victoria's water parks, a tube float down the Yarra River in Warburton, and maybe a day at the Zoo. We will be using these holidays to rest and reset before Lilly starts at secondary school, and attacking the perpetual and never-ending list of things to do around the house.
Josh: On my holidays I plan on doing a lot of relaxing and recuperating. I’m also going to be preparing resources for my classroom next year at Kilberry Valley Primary School.

Year 6 Shirt Signing
On Friday 20th December, from 10.45am to 11.30am, the Year 6 students will gather in the collaborative learning space for the signing of school shirts, autograph books, or any other memorabilia the children would like to use. If students choose to have their school shirt signed, they will not be permitted to wear it during the signing process. Students will be in free dress on the final day of the term, as it is the Christmas Celebration Free-Dress Day. However, for our final assembly of the year, students are allowed to wear their ‘signed shirt.’ Students may change their shirt before the assembly if they wish. We ask that all students bring their own permanent markers for signing.
Next Wednesday 18th December is our Year 6 Graduation. Please find important details about the event below:
Family Attendance: Students are welcome to bring their families to the Graduation ceremony. In previous years, siblings and grandparents have also been invited and are welcome to attend.
Photographer: A photographer will be available on the night in the library, both before the ceremony - from 5.00pm - and after the ceremony, for individual and family photos. These photos will be available for purchase online after the event. More details will be shared soon.
Dinner and Disco: The dinner and disco are for students and staff only. Students must be collected from the stairs at the back of the hall at 9.15pm.
If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to email your child’s teacher.
Polo Shirts: Jordyn has contacted PSW to confirm an estimated time of arrival for the polo shirts. Once this is confirmed, she will notify all families.
Jumpers: Year 6 jumpers are now available to order online. A Compass post with ordering details was sent out this week. All jumper orders must be submitted by Wednesday 18th December 2025. Late orders cannot be accepted. If you have any questions, please email Jordyn Whittington.
On Tuesday 3rd December, all of the Year 5/6s were invited to make mini pizza muffins with Julie. Before we started, a group of people were able to go to the garden and pick out a few vegetables and herbs for the pizza muffins. They picked toppings like zucchini and rosemary. Other toppings were ingredients like spring onion, carrot, mint and much more. The first class that got to cook was 5/6W, next was 5/6S and then 5/6H. On the pizzas, there were a variety of options to choose from including cheese, tomato paste, ham and pineapple (for those that can't have ham) and much more. The base that we used for the pizzas were mini muffins, so it was easier to bake with. After baking the pizza muffins, each class enjoyed their delicious savoury treat.

On the 4th of December, Scoresby Primary School held our annual Colour Fun Run. All the grades took turns running around the oval getting covered in powder and water. Josh and Belinda, a PFA helper, offered to get slimed on the day by the highest fundraisers, which were Annie Robinson from 5/6H, and Jayden Wong from Foundation. A lot of parents and teachers helped spray the students - including the 2025 Preps - with colour and water. With the music playing while the students ran, and all the obstacles across the oval, it was one of the best days this year, with a lot of preparation from the staff. Overall, the day was very exciting and fun, being able to be covered with colour.

On the 9th of December, the 5/6 students went to Luna Park for our Big Day Out. The 5/6s got to school at 8.40am and left at 9.00am. It was an hour-long bus ride to Luna Park but everyone got there in one piece. When we arrived, we put down our bags and all ran off to line up for a ride. Although some rides were scarier than others, some kids stepped outside their comfort zone and took a leap of faith. Some kids forgot they had money they could spend and, instead, spent all their time on fun, thrill-seeking and eventful rides! All the 5/6s and teachers had a blast and it was a wonderful experience for everyone!
