Year Two Team News

with Steph, Joel and Georgia

Hello Year Two families,

The last two weeks have flown by and we hope that you have all enjoyed a well deserved break to freshen up in week 5 for what will be an exciting second half of term to finish off the year. Next week we will wrap up our warm water swimming program on Friday the 22nd of November. We have been extremely proud of the organisation and resilience all of our students have shown thus far. We would also like to thank all of the wonderful parents that have volunteered their time to assist us over the duration of the program.

Important news:

  • Upcoming Excursion: On Wednesday 27th November we will be having our Grade Two excursion to the Melbourne Botanical Gardens to support the learning of our inquiry unit. We are looking for two parent helpers from each class. If you are interested in coming to assist on the day, please be in touch with your child’s teacher.
  • Grade 2 Assemblies: Well done to 2G and 2K who did a wonderful job of hosting assembly. Grade 2J will be hosting this Friday 15th of November with 1K.
  • Term 4 Oral Presentations: The criteria for our Term 4 Oral Presentation will be sent home this week. The topic for the Term 4 presentation is: Glorious Gardens! Students are asked to create a diorama of a garden which focuses on the plants and creatures that live there. The diorama will be supported by an oral presentation. The talk should provide key information about the garden, what is in it, and why each plant and animal chosen are important.

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 7 and 8 of Term 4

Literacy: In Reading, we will be continuing to gather up facts when reading non-fiction texts. We will also continue to explore vowel digraphs. In writing, we will be writing information reports on things that can be found in our garden.

Numeracy:  We will be continuing to revise place value and division.

Inquiry: We will be using our excursion to support our learning by evaluating different creatures and how they are suited to certain habitats.

Willy Kids: Through the pillar of responsibility, we will be learning about leadership and the different ways that people can lead.
