Year One Team News

with Anna, Zoe, Edan & Claire

Hello Year One families,

Year 1 Dinner: Last Thursday we celebrated one of the most anticipated events of the year - the Year 1 Dinner! The students had a fantastic time completing their Australian animal craft which they were able to paint with their own patterns and designs. They looked fantastic! The weather was kind to us and allowed us to eat outside. The kids enjoyed their pizza and ice creams and it was great to see so many helping themselves to some salad as well! It was a fantastic night that will hopefully see the students feel prepared for their next camp experience - the Year 2 sleepover!

Assembly:

Well done to 1D for hosting a fantastic assembly with 2G! The kids did such a fantastic job to overcome their nerves and present to such a big audience. 1K are very excited to host tomorrow with 2J. Parents are warmly invited to attend, so we look forward to seeing you there.

Willy Games Day: Next Tuesday is the annual Willy Games. Students come to school dressed in their house colours and have a fun day competing in different events to earn points for their house. The second part of the day is run by KaBoom Sports and students will have the chance to enjoy a wide array of games and activities on the oval.

Seeking Shoe boxes:

Soon, students will make a moving toy using a shoe box. Please send along any unwanted shoe boxes to school for this activity.

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 7-8

Reading: We have now finished the Little Learners Love Literacy program. The remainder of this term will be revision of stage 7.4.

Writing: The students are finishing up their supported narratives and will use all they have learned to help them write their own!

Numeracy: We will be focusing on 3D objects and telling the time to the half-hour.

Inquiry:  Our topic this term is ‘What Makes Things Move?’ and have been exploring the different forces used to make things move. Over the next few weeks, the students will make their own moving toys.

Willy Kids/Respectful Relationships: The Willy Kids focus is “Willy Kids are Leaders” where students will be discussing what makes a good leader. Our focus for Respectful Relationships this term is “Stress Management”. We have been learning about ways that we can calm ourselves down when feeling stressed or worried.

Warm regards,

The Grade One Team –  Zoe Kitchen & Anna Swan (1K), Edan Bacegga (1B) & Claire Davies (1D)
