Year 3 & 5 Assembly

A few weeks ago the Grade 3s shared their learning on Australian poetry. 3 Ruyg recited a poem by CJ Denis called “The Ant’s Journey”. 3 Atkins and 3 Lamanna sang a song of the pows “Mulga Bill’s Bicycle” written by Banjo Paterson. We loved getting to share the poems we have been learning with the whole school. We hope everyone will take some time to study Australian poetry.

On the 11th of October 2024, the Grade 5s had our second assembly about Remembrance Day, Australian Democracy and our Excursion. At the start of the assembly 6 children, including myself, came up on the stage and talked about Remembrance Day. We spoke about how we celebrate the day, when it is held and why we remember the people that served and risked their lives for our country, Australia. One of the significant moments for me was how the back row held up their hand crafted poppies up above their heads when I started talking about the importance of the poppy. At the end of our Remembrance Day assembly we invited all the students, teachers, parents and grandparents to stand up in silence and remember all those who fought for Australia while listening to the last post for 1 minute.
Then we moved onto Democracy and how it works. We spoke about how Australia is divided into 3 Governments, Federal, State or Territory and Local Government. We also explained how they help society live a happy life in Australia. The next group of students stood up and talked about our excursion. On our excursion we learnt about Ned Kelly, who was a bushranger, outlaw, gang leader and convicted-police murderer, The Old Melbourne Gaol and The Old Melbourne Treasury Building.
The assembly proved that we have the confidence to walk on stage and talk through a microphone without any fear. We each collaborated perfectly and it ended on the best possible note. I thought the highlight of the Grade 5 assembly was that we all got together to acknowledge those that served our country and that everyone cooperated excellently.
