Ambulance Visit
The ABC's class has been doing a unit on "our community", learning all about people that help us. This includes the amazing people that work at hospitals, so the class had an extra special treat in Week 4 when we were visited by Brodie, Bree, and Stretch, two paramedics and their friendly stuffed teddy bear! They gave a fun and exciting talk about what paramedics and ambulances do, and showed us what we all can do in case of an emergency. They told the students how to call an ambulance if they were in trouble, and taught them some basic first aid. The kids had a fantastic time bandaging each other's arms and practicing folding slings for each other!
After the talk, Brodie and Bree took everyone out to the front of the school to see a real, full-sized ambulance! Every child was taken on a tour through the inside of the ambulance, where they got to try on the paramedics' bright vests, look at the medical equipment, and even help give Stretch oxygen through an oxygen mask! The event ended with the whole class helping to pack away the stretcher and other equipment, and then we said goodbye to our wonderful paramedic friends.
