In STEM, students are exploring the exciting work that engineers do each day!

Students have continued learning about the engineering process. This week, they have been looking at earthquake resistant buildings, using plastic cups they had to build the tallest tower they could. Students had to look at the shape of the tower to resist the shaking table.

Students have finally finished their 3D mazes! Here are some results!

Students have looked at aerodynamics this week, creating a Whirly Bird from a template. After the template was followed and built, they had to use a blank piece of paper to create a different design that got the same result.

In other exciting news, in the Dallas neighbourhood house competition, we had 4 wonderful winners! Reetaj, Tasneem, Charif and Eslem :) Congratulations to our winners and well done to everyone for some beautiful colouring

It's been an exciting term with the BPS World Cup continuing throughout the weeks. With several teams knocked out already, it's coming down to the finals. Will it be Tonkin's Titans taking the win? Kenzie's Kebabs coming in for a victory? Cliffy Crushers claiming the cup? Or can Sheppard's Strawhats secure a secondwind? Watch this space to find out!

Our students in Foundation 1/2s have been using mini bats and tennis balls to practise their batting and serving skills. We've been working on bouncing the ball on the bat, on the ground, and how to throw and serve a ball over a net.

Students have also been developing their skipping rope skills, learning how to WHOOSH and JUMP the rope over their heads. 

With Interschool Sports approaching, students have been practising their cricket and volleyball skills, with teeball and basketball coming up in the next couple of weeks.

3/4s also had the chance for an extra soccer clinic session with Bat from Melbourne Victory, and enjoyed learning new skills while having fun together.

We've been working on learning the rules and skills for each game, that will help us when we venture to Dallas Brooks to represent our school in friendly competition on Friday 29th of November.

With the BPS World Cup underway, we have had quite the focus on soccer in our PE sessions. We've also been working on cricket and volleyball skills, and will revisit our teeball skills soon.

Hola a todos! Even though this week has been short, students have been very productive. This week students have explored the Spanish alphabet and the sounds of its letters. 

Foundation - Grade 1/2 students have put great effort in recognising the letters through teacher-modelling activities and practising handwriting. This certainly has motivated them to learn more about the Spanish sounds while finding many similarities with the English language.

Grade 3/4 students have recognised and practised sounds of the Spanish alphabet and compared them with the English one. Students at this level have been given the opportunity to learn words that start with each of the letters of the Spanish alphabet. They've developed great interest in associating new vocabulary with images and posters around our learning space. They've also practised the sounds of the letters while completing 'Spanish mazes'.

Grade 5/6 students have done just amazing this week! All 5/6 grades have recognised and practised the Spanish alphabet with a variety of listening comprehension exercises. This has been their first time listening to other accents/intonations (different from Señor Esteban's Colombian accent), and they all have responded very well to this kind of activities. Similarly, they've started to use the Spanish alphabet to spell their names, which later can be part of a bigger activity such as Spelling Bee - Spanish version. 

Overall, students have engaged in a variety of activities that have helped them recognised and associate the Spanish alphabet and its equivalent sounds. In the same way, students were able to find similarities and reflect upon those similarities between the English and Spanish languages. As for next week, students will continue to practice sounds of consonants and vowels in simple words such as colours, shapes, etc. !Adiós amigos!
