THE ARTS

T4 2024

On Thursday November 7th, our wonderful Choir demonstrated their incredible singing and presentation skills as well as their values of good manners, courage and resilience to perform in this year’s Southern Metropolitan Music Festival. Choir students have spent the past three terms learning lyrics (including parts) and choreography to a total of thirteen songs. They have practiced these songs at weekly Choir lessons and at home using the Festival of Music app and they also attended two challenging rehearsals with students from other schools in the southern area. I am extremely proud of their efforts throughout the year and I especially want to thank Tori Hay for her amazing assistance and support, particularly for most of Term 2 when I had knee replacement surgery. Special mention to Natalie Jolley, Jo Burgum and Sara Dunn for their help on the concert day/night. Congratulations to Oceana Davies and Lily Hay for singing their solo parts so beautifully and confidently. Well done to Savannah Telford who was one of two winners of the SMMF Programme competition with her detailed and colourful illustration being used on the back cover of the concert programme. Tori and I hope that many of our current members in Years 3 to 5 will continue with Choir next year and we also look forward to welcoming new students  in 2025!

Hackham Has Talent auditions are well under way at lunch times on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Our HHT committee for 2024 are Hayley S, Lillian C, John B-H, James L, Alexis S, Octavia B-M, Jackson B and Tayla D. These committee members are judging some high quality performances so it is going to be difficult choosing the top ten acts to go through to the final. Good luck, everyone!

Classes in Castle Unit have been introduced to the percussion family in Arts lessons this term. Students grouped instruments according to how they are played- hit, scraped or shaken. We have been using percussion instruments to create different sound effects to poems, chants, picture books and fairy tales. We have also focussed on dynamics ( how loud or soft music is played) and timbre (the unique sound quality of an instrument).

Stillwell and Holly Unit students have been learning the basics of rapping and are using this knowledge to make up their own rap version to a nursery rhyme or familiar short song or jingle. Stillwell classes are creating this rap project in Garage Band and are exploring the music tools within this app. Holly students are using the Voice Memo app and Freestyle instrumental rap beats to present their work.
