From the Principal

As we near the end of the academic year, it’s a milestone moment for our Year 12 students, many of whom have now completed their exams, marking the culmination of years of dedication and hard work. This period has brought both challenges and triumphs, and it is inspiring to see our students approach their exams with such resilience and focus. We commend them for their efforts and look forward to celebrating their achievements in the weeks ahead as they prepare to embark on their next chapter.

Our Year 10 and 11 students are also deep into their exam periods, displaying a commitment to their studies and laying the groundwork for their future pathways. With planning for 2025 nearly complete, we are excited about the opportunities and experiences that await them. As we refine our academic programs and make the final adjustments to support students in the coming year, we remain focused on building a supportive, challenging environment that promotes growth and success across all year levels.

Outstanding NAPLAN Success

It’s always nice to share positive news with you about some remarkable NAPLAN achievements, particularly in Numeracy and Reading, that highlight the dedication and expertise of our teaching staff and the hard work of our students. Over the past few years, our staff have embraced targeted instructional strategies, collaborative practices, and tailored support initiatives, all of which have contributed significantly to these exceptional results.

This year’s NAPLAN results reveal that our Year 9 students are excelling at a level that places us well above similar schools and our network schools. In Numeracy, an impressive 77% of students achieved a strong or exceeding standard. This compares to an average of 67% in similar schools and 64% within our network schools. Our Reading results are equally impressive, with 71% achieving strong or exceeding results, surpassing the 68% at similar schools and 65% within our network.

These outcomes reflect the progress we have made over several years through strategic planning, dedicated classroom focus, and learning support initiatives designed to elevate student growth.

Key approaches implemented:

  • Classroom Support and Learning Assistance: Our staff have taken a proactive approach to supporting students through targeted assistance both within the classroom and through specialised learning support programs. This allows students to consolidate core concepts, receive individualised feedback, and build confidence across various aspects of Numeracy and Reading.
  • Prioritising Instructional Excellence in the Classroom: We continue to prioritise the quality of teaching and learning in the classroom by fostering a knowledge-rich curriculum, explicit instruction, and vocabulary development. Our teachers model key skills, offer structured support, and emphasise critical thinking, all of which contribute to a deeper understanding of Numeracy and Reading concepts.
  • Dedicated Initiatives to Support Growth: Recognising that students progress at different paces, we have tailored learning support initiatives to help bridge any gaps and challenge students to reach their full potential. These initiatives have provided additional opportunities for students to build on foundational skills and achieve at higher levels, as reflected in the exceptional results we see today.

Our students’ success in NAPLAN this year is more than a single milestone; it represents sustained growth over time, reflecting our commitment to their academic journey. As a school community, we can all take pride in these achievements, knowing they are the product of years of collaboration, hard work, and a shared focus on student progress and excellence.

Thank you for supporting our school and celebrating these successes with us. We look forward to further growth as we continue to nurture each student’s potential in the future.

Kind regards

Karl Russell
