Work Experience Spot Light
We are incredibly proud of Indiana R who was 1 of just 12 students selected to participate in the Thoroughly Schooled program in Scone. She spent five action-packed days gaining an incredible insight into the many pathways and opportunities within the thoroughbred industry.
The week began at Scone TAFE, where students were introduced to the program and met the Off-The-Track Thoroughbreds used at TAFE. The group then visited the NSW Thoroughbred Breeders Association, completing their HorseSafe Certificate before heading to the races to experience the industry behind the scenes including the barriers, commentary box and jockeys' changerooms.
Day 3 provided an incredible insight into equine veterinary care at Scone Equine Hospital, where students witnessed a bone marrow procedure, before visiting Scone's leading thoroughbred operations.
On day 4, the work experience day, Indiana attended Cressfield Stud Farm & Breeding Operations, learning about the veterinary reproductive services involved in the breeding prgogram, before visiting Woodlands Stud and seeing the legendary Exceed to Excel one of Australia's most successful thoroughbred stallions.
The final day was spent at Scott Singleton Racing Stables, providing an insight into the racing and training side of the industry, before wrapping up the week with a presentation and farewell.
What an incredible five days of learning, hands-on experiences and industry connections!
