Assistant Principal

Ms. Julie Ryan

Hello,

I hope that by the time you read this, that we are all back onsite and engaging in our regular program of teaching and learning.

It is absolutely imperative that all students follow CoVid safe practices as advised by their teachers which includes wearing a mask indoors and outdoors. Students must carry a mask with them at all times and follow staff instructions around this. If a student has an exemption for a mask, this must be communicated to our general office. Students who refuse to wear a mask as per the guidelines will not be able to attend regular classes.

As we return to onsite learning, we continue to have the same the high expectations of our students behaviour and dress while at school. Our students are aware of our well established uniform policy and Student Code of Behaviour and the expectation is that students are prepared with the correct uniform at all times that they are at school. If a student does not have their uniform, they must attend the relevant sub school with a parent note prior to 8.30am.

Students should be at school in time to be ready for period 1 classes at 8.40am. There is a transition time of 2 minutes built into our schedule that means students have enough time to get to periods 2, 3, 4 and 5 on time regardless of where their previous class was. Students should not be accessing their lockers between classes.

Students are required to bring their LSC school diary everyday. Not only does this allow them to keep a track of their homework, assessment tasks and extra curricular activities, the diary must be used when students are leaving their classroom and it also has the key information about the school inside.

I remind all students that mobile phones are to be in lockers from the first morning bell at 8.30am – to the final bell at 3pm.

Sadly, we have had to cancel Work Experience at this time. I understand that many students and families are concerned about upcoming events like the Gold Coast Camp and the Year 10 Formal. The running of these events will be determined by the School Operations guide and current CoVid restrictions at the time of the events. It is our aim to ensure that we are able to run as many events as we can outside of lockdown periods and within changing restrictions.

We have been able to continue our course counselling and transition processes at the college through the lockdown. As an example, Year 10 students have had a subject information session and will have course counselling sessions with members of the Year 10 and 11 teams on the 2nd and 3rd of August. All of this information is available on Compass and I encourage parents to make themselves aware of this to better support students in making the best choices they can for their senior studies. There is also a range of information on our website to support parents and students at the following links:

Even onsite, students need to ensure that they have access to their eduPass details for their email accounts. Many students do not recall their passwords for school email accounts which means that they cannot access their learning immediately in a lockdown period. It takes time to reset the passwords, so I encourage students to practise some responsibility around these details.

Despite the recent lockdown, we will be relentless in our efforts to ensure that students feel some consistency and that we continue to present opportunities to celebrate key student successes. Students will soon be celebrating their Semester 1 achievements at award ceremonies that will occur in the coming two weeks. I look forward to this chance to congratulate the students achieving awards.

I wish you all the very best
