Assistant Principal

11 & 12

Ms. Laura Forster

It is truly wonderful to have our senior students returning to onsite learning after this latest remote learning period.  I understand the difficulties that some students may face with the adjustments between a home learning program and onsite learning. It is not uncommon for students to struggle with motivation and engagement issues as they grapple with uncertainty of these times. Hopefully returning back to school will help ease some of these issues, where our team and their teachers have been eagerly awaiting their return to our classrooms. Please be confident that the school has wellbeing interventions in place for any student who may need additional support during this time. Should toy wish to raise any concerns that you may have regarding your child, please feel free to contact the senior school student managers, Kat Carmody or myself in the first instance, where we will be able to direct you to the available support.

This latest remote learning period has yet again pushed out the date for the GAT (General Achievement Test) to the new date of the 12th August. All students completing a unit 3 and 4 of VCE will be required to sit this test at school. Add this new date to your diaries, so that you can offer support and encouragement to your children on this day. The GAT is part of the VCE assessments and can be used to validate exam scores. It is a three hour test which includes two essays and 70 multiple e choice questions. The GAT is important as it can provide support for students who may fall seriously ill on a day of their end of year exams. It is also sometimes used to scale SAC score (School Assessed Course work). Some universities, such as Monash University have also been known to refer to GAT scores if a student hasn’t quite met the ATAR required to enter a selected course. All students completing the GAT will need to be at school on Thursday 12th August no later than 9.30 am. We wish all of our students the best of luck for their GAT.

On Wednesday the 14th July, we held a special year 12 assembly where we invited four of our talented ex year 12 students fom 2020, including valedictorian Nour Maqsodi We. Also welcomed back Ana Krsteska, Kim Nguyen ad Kelly Yang. In a Q&A style session the girls spoke about their experiences completing year 12 and provided some useful words of wisdom to support our current year 12 students. The assembly provided an excellent opportunity for some fantastic questions and discussions. On behalf of the college, I would like to thank these girls for giving so generously of their time to reconnect back with us, and wish them al the best of success in their university studies.

On Thursday 29th July our year 11 students participated in an online forum facilitated by our LOUPE presenters on Stress Management and self -regulation. The school has engaged the support of LOUPE to assist our senior students be the best learners they possibly can through a bespoke program of mindfulness and stress management techniques.

Semester one reports will be available for students and Parents to view on Monday the August 2nd. Please take the time to read through these with your child. Parent teacher conferences will take place in early September. Please as always, feel free to contact your child’s teachers should you have any concerns with their learning.

Best wishes,
