Networking

The Whittlesea Youth Commitment/Hume Whittlesea LLEN is conducting a

Career Networking for Young People event on on Tuesday 7th September 2021

at Uni Hill Conference Centre, 30 Graduate Drive, Bundoora.

Whittlesea Career Expo for Young People & Parents/Carers: 5pm – 7:30pm: this evening session is open to all young people and parents. Registrations can be made by emailing helen.m@hwllen.com.au or sending a text to Helen on 0434 231 987.

Career Networking for Young People/Whittlesea Career Expo aims to:

  • assist young people with their career networking and planning
  • provide support for school leavers looking for further, training and/or employment
  • raise awareness of pathway options and career choices

About the event

  • Representatives from tertiary providers, including universities, TAFEs, RTO, Apprenticeship and Traineeship groups, local government, businesses and services will have stalls for students to visit with opportunities to gain information and ask questions.
  • Lists of participating stallholders will be provided prior to entry for referencing purposes.
  • Interactive stalls will be featured with opportunities for practical engagement in a range of vocational areas.

These are free events and suitable for young people of any age.

Schools will be able to bring large numbers of students within designated time slots to ensure maximum opportunities to engage with stall holders (please note, numbers may be dependent on covid safe protocols set by the venue). Students can be from any year level, and HWLLEN staff and volunteers will be available to assist with the navigation of stallholders most relevant to student needs and interests.

Preparing for the event

A Career Networking video of approx. 15-20 minutes duration will be provided to schools for students to view during the week prior to the event. This video will give students an overview of what career networking is, why it is important, what they can expect at the event, and how this can be practiced at the event on September 7th. Worksheets related to the video will be provided to assist with student preparation for the event and incentive prizes will be available at the venue based on the level of student consultation and engagement with stallholders. If preferred, this workshop can be conducted at the venue – please feel free to contact us to discuss.
