Kitchen Garden

It was wonderful to begin Kitchen Garden classes with our F/1 students last week.

Our students were lucky to warmly welcome and meet Trish, our new garden teacher and begin their learning about our new worm farm, safety in the garden and planting a bean. Students went on a detective hunt for small animals in our garden with Robbie, shared and learnt of clues for discovering and identifying these animals.

Lots of fun was had in the kitchen with Linda learning about winter citrus delights. Students practiced tying their aprons, familiarising themselves with the kitchen and squeezed tangelos. They all enjoyed sipping on fresh tangelo juice.

We asked the children what they learnt in the garden. Below are a some of their responses:

I learnt about respecting the worms.   - Noah

I liked going to the garden with my friends because we will eat the plants and have lots of fun.  – Sabir

I learnt you can find small animals in really unusual spots in the garden. – Remi

I discovered that there weren’t many butterflies on cold days. – Trixie

I learnt how to make juice. It was sour and sort of tasted like oranges. – Archer

I learnt how to use a magnifying glass to find creatures.Jack
