Teaching & Learning

In what seems the blink of an eye, our students have returned from remote learning and have now finished up for the term and the semester. What a roller coaster ride it has been for all. Great credit needs to be given to each and every student in dealing with the sudden and unpredictable changes that have affected their education and social worlds.

Like the young people in our wonderful school, parents, caregivers and guardians have been magnificent in their support of their children’s educational opportunities and growth, whilst managing all the other difficulties that stem from being in and out of Covid lockdown. It is a privilege to see so much care and love shown during a difficult and challenging time.

Of special note are our teachers and support staff who actively planned for the possible lockdowns, and diligently enacted a seamless and purposeful transition to and from remote learning.  Our staff have balanced the needs of their own families whilst ensuring the teaching and learning programs continued to the highest levels, without being on the campus.  The genuine care and support Oakleigh Grammar staff have for our students is a commodity rarely found in many schools.

Our teaching staff are acutely aware that every student has responded differently to the circumstances and challenges of this past semester.  They are actively seeking and addressing any learning deficits and wellbeing issues that have arisen during the semester.  By addressing these ‘gaps’ in knowledge or issues of wellbeing, our teachers continue in their obligations of duty of care for the academic and pastoral outcomes of all our students.

With semester reports about to be published via your Xuno account, it is apt to remember our teachers bring enormous professional acumen in their continual observation and assessment of each student’s understanding and knowledge, whether in the physical classroom or via remote learning.

The center of our practice, our purpose here, is for the growth and achievement of every student at Oakleigh Grammar.  Should you have any questions or wish to discuss the continued progress of your child once you receive the School Report, please contact the relevant teacher to request some additional consultation.

Use of mandatory QR code check-ins

Parents and caregivers are advised that the use of the Victorian Government’s Service Victoria QR codes for electronic record-keeping is now mandatory for all workplaces, including schools and early childhood centres. Therefore, QR code check-ins are required for all visitors who enter our School buildings and indoor spaces, including contractors, external staff, and all parents and carers.

The QR code does not replace the sign-in and sign-out processes for visitor attendance, nor does it replace the usual sign-in and out processes for parents. Any visitor will therefore be asked to complete their QR code check-in and to sign-in and out. A different QR code check-in will be required for those parents who are visiting both the ELC and School. The less than 15-minute time period no longer applies.

Please note that the use of QR code check-ins does not apply when outside a school building or for staff and students as their attendance on-site is recorded each day.

We thank you in anticipation of your support of our community.
