Awareness

2021

Digitally edited photos using Adobe Photoshop

Danh of Acacia year 10 studied the technique of Double Exposure as part of his Y10 Photography class. Danh has provided the following explanation of his digitally created artwork;

""Awareness is a miniseries of three different edits that when looked chronologically is a story of a person waking up in an unknown place to see that their hands are decaying slowly. Through the three edits, this artwork combined signifies how fast time goes without our full awareness and at some point our actions and freedom will be limited sooner or later. Another way to look at this artwork is by linking to the young people in the current time as nowadays a majority of young people are too focused on making money and throwing way their precious youth.

In addition, the three edits have their own meaning in some ways. For instance, the first edit indicates the way how people are always unaware of the changes going on around them. The second edit amplifies the meaning of the first edit by showing that once a person have noticed issues it is already too late as their precious time and joy are already fading away. Lastly, the third edit show how after the lost the person parts are crumbling down slowly. The double exposure in all three edits combines two or three images together using Photoshop and also adding filters and changes in brightness and colour. The main elements that sparks the most in this shot are likely colour and contrast as together they help make the bland and ordinary background look more dream-like.

Overall, this shot is intended to convey the urgency for everyone to make sure they should enjoy their time instead of restricting themselves due to the fact that nothing lasts forever. Furthermore, this shot is largely inspired by the issues of this society as more and more people in the current time are too focused on achieving one goal and throwing away everything around them."

Oh what a feeling

2021

Procreate (a raster graphics editor app for digital painting)

Molly of Acacia year 12 voluntarily entered 'Oh what a feeling' into the running for Artist of the Week and has been chosen as this week's winner! Molly has provided the following explanation of her artwork;

"This artwork was inspired by the song 'Dancing On The Ceiling' by Lionel Richie. I took colours normally used in psychedelic 60s and 70s art work and I used them to made eyes not quite human, yet realistic in texture, but not shape. The melting is used to symbolise the melting away of one’s sense of responsibility as you engage in feel good activities that may not be so good for you, such as partying, drinking, staying up all night, taking recreational drugs and other maladaptive behaviours to remove yourself from every day stress. The melting is the destruction taking place in the body and mind and the harm you’ve done to your body as it starts to seep through into your awareness, and you can no longer run away from your problems, because your own body has become the problem".
