College Principal Report

Term Three

The first five weeks of this term have not been what we had hoped with a significant number of days in remote learning.  Fortunately, we are very practiced at moving to remote learning, so student learning has continued as best as possibly can.

Some of the events that were due to happen were able to be rescheduled, for example the Year 7 Camp which was meant to run from 26 – 30 July has now been booked for Term 4.

We hold strong hopes that the College Production ‘High School Musical’ will be able to go ahead albeit with a reduced audience. Tickets will be available through TryBooking and the link will be sent out to all students and their families. I have met with the teachers in charge of the Production to discuss how we can showcase the performers talents in the event the live production cannot go ahead.

Staff Changes

We have had some staff changes since the start of term

  • Jenny Nguyen –has joined our Acacia Campus as a Maths teacher
  • Chantelle Johnson has returned from parental leave to Acacia Campus to resume her role as the Student Wellbeing Coordinator
  • Becki Kinsella – has taken up a new role as Student Engagement Wellbeing Coordinator.

Cambodian Sister School

We have received a request from Australia Cambodia Education Academy to enter into a sister school relationship. The intention is to communicate regularly, work collaboratively, and encourage new approaches to achieve the following positive outcomes:

  1. Strengthen relationships, understanding and cultural awareness between Victoria, Australia and Cambodia. To provide opportunities for students and teachers to develop skills which enhance Australia – Cambodia relationships
  2. Support and enhance the quality teaching and learning of students in Cambodia, enrich multicultural understanding between students in Cambodia and Australia within their respective schools
  3. Develop ties of friendship through regular communication or joint activities where possible
  4. Build an international perspective exchange mechanisms and dialogues within the schools allowing for a balanced global perspective for their students, staff and teachers
  5. Develop students into citizens who are globally engaged, comfortable with diversity and with the skills to operate effectively across cultures with different world views and belief systems

Collection of data for students with disability

Each year all schools are obligated to collect and submit information for the NCCD (National Consistent Collection of Data) on school students with disability, under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and Disability Standards for Education 2005. This data collection is crucial to identifying and ensuring all students with disability are receiving the appropriate support and adjustments needed to enable them the same educational access and learning opportunities as their peers. It is important to note that no identifying information or personal details are provided to the Australian Government in the NCCD. Ultimately this data will help to inform teachers, schools and sectors of the needs of students with disability, the level of adjustment to education that is needed and the development of shared practices to strengthen the support of students with disabilities to improve their educational outcomes.
