Where We Are In Place & Time
YEAR FOUR - TERM 2, 2021
Transdisciplinary theme: Where We Are In Place & Time
CENTRAL IDEA
Exploration leads to discoveries, opportunities and new understandings
As an International Baccalaureate world school, authorised to teach the Primary Year’s Programme, we explore six transdisciplinary themes each year.
The term 2 unit of inquiry provides the opportunity for year four students to investigate various forms of exploration and the benefits or consequences this may bring. We aim to develop a sense of curiosity about the past, the inspiration that influences exploration what we can learn from exploration.
We will ask students to think and extend their ideas about the migration stories of their families and other individuals, making connections between these more modern experiences and those of the past.
We encourage the students to explore and research information as directed, ensuring they write their research notes in their own words in order to show respect for the ownership and intellectual rights of the authors/websites they access.
Concepts
- Causation
- Change
Lines of Inquiry
- Reasons and consequences of exploration
- New opportunities, issues, problems that arise
- Sequences/stages of human movement to new countries
Action
We continue to encourage our children’s independent action inspired by our Units of Inquiry. Action during remote learning is as important as it would be at school. It may be independently finding items that help them explore the topic and artefacts, photos or the variety of books on their book shelf. It also could be in the form of student initiated drawings/posters/research.
We celebrate our children’s ACTION every day in our classrooms. Please celebrate any action you see occurring in your home
