Year 9

It has been a very busy first term! With Swimming Sports, Mary Poppins Rehearsals, Duke of Edinburgh Camps, Leadership Meetings, Active Youth Travel Day and much more. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the girls for their positive spirit, their enthusiasm for learning and their generosity towards each other and staff.

The leadership shown by the girls at Year 9 is outstanding and many students have volunteered to be tour guides for College Open Mornings as well as being on committees of leadership. I encourage all students to consider participating in leadership opportunities, as this not only builds confidence and develops experience, it enables new friendships to be developed and enriches the experience of school life.

In pastoral sessions, we have celebrated success of individuals and groups and started to focus on study skills in preparation for the first examination experience for the girls at the end of the first semester. We have also spent time discussing the Bridges Camp to Kangaroobie, which is going to be a wonderful experience on a working farm.

On our last day of term, we will be holding our annual Easter Liturgy, where we will focus on the very important theme of the Resurrection of Christ. Easter is a time of sacrifice and new beginnings for all of us. A time for family and celebration of all that we cherish in our lives.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Year 9 students and families a very special Easter and holiday break. I am very grateful for the opportunity to work closely with this incredible group of young women and am proud of the courage and spirit they have shown this term.

Congratulations

Our newly elected Year 9 Student Representative Council members: Alice Merchant, Alexia Ritzert and Kaitlyn Bailey.

Kingston Council Active Travel Day

Congratulations to Alexia Ritzert, Maddison Torpey, Shannen Carty, Natasha Wain, Maddison Selacki and Ella Bater who have been very busy for the last 6 months organising, promoting and launching Kilbreda’s Active Travel Program. Friday 29 March was our official ‘Ride to School’ Day where two different groups of students rode to school with staff, from either Black Rock or Mordialloc.

Upon arriving at school, a lovely carnival atmosphere greeted the girls, with smoothie bikes, music, breakfast provided by Ms Downie and the VET students. It was a wonderful morning and hopefully helped raise awareness of the need to be active and of the need to find alternative ways to get to school besides train, especially with the rail project looming.

Active Travel Day

On Friday 29 March we had our Active Travel Day where students were encouraged to walk or ride to school. We had a few different meeting points for students who wanted to ride together and when we got to school there was breakfast.

Kingston Council, who we have been working, with, also supplied Smoothie Bikes! Students could get on a bike and ride it which would then blend up a fruit smoothie for them to have! These were definitely very popular and many people want them to come back for more school events!

One of our major sponsors of the event, Bicycle Superstore, also supplied some prizes for students who rode on the day to possibly win! Overall it was a great event!
