Best Start Year 7 Assessment

Dear parents and carers,

Year 7 students will participate in the Best Start Year 7 Assessment in Term 1, 2020.

Best Start Year 7 is an online literacy and numeracy assessment available to secondary schools that assesses key literacy and numeracy skills of Year 7 students. It is designed to assist teachers to identify students who may require additional support in developing their literacy and numeracy skills. The assessment is undertaken within the first five weeks of the school year.

The purpose of the Best Start Year 7 assessment is to provide feedback to teachers to help identify student needs. Feedback will be provided to teachers who may choose to share this with students, parents and carers during teacher interview processes.

Best Start Year 7 is just one of a range of assessments the school uses to assess students.

Please inform the school if your child has special needs requiring support to complete an online assessment.

Students will be asked to bring headphones or earbuds that plug into a computer to enable them to hear audio during the assessment. Earbuds used for mobile phones or other portable devices may be suitable for use during the assessment. The type of computer connection needed is a jack or USB.

Testing for Year 7 at Guyra Central School will take place during Week 3.

VIVO Rewards System

This year at Guyra Central School we will be switching to the VIVO Rewards system to manage the 7 – 12 positive rewards Snowburst system. The VIVO system allows teachers to rewards students with Snowburst/VIVO points electronically. The students receive the positive recognition for doing the right thing through their VIVO account and can then redeem the points that they have earned through the VIVO Shop which has prizes from the VIVO people but also rewards provided by the school. This is a great initiative aimed at recognising those students who consistently follow the school PBL expectations of Pride, Respect & Responsibility.

In accordance with the Department of Education Duty of  Care Policy, teacher supervision of students commences at 8.30am until the end of the school day. In the interests of child safety, no student is allowed at school before 8:30, as supervision is not provided.

If care for your child is required before 8:30 am, before and after school care is offered by the Guyra Preschool and by some Family Day Care providers in Guyra.
