Principal's Report

Principal’s Message

Welcome back to another school term! Can I take this opportunity to congratulate all students and their carers for their amazing commitment to learning during these challenging times and thank you for your flexibility and determination. I think that we have all had the opportunity to learn something different during these past weeks.

Our staff at Guyra Central School never cease to amaze me, I am not sure which gear they were working in to achieve what they did during the end of Term 1 but I thank them for their professionalism and commitment to the students of Guyra and their families.

I hope that everyone has  had a good rest over the school holidays as the online learning challenge continues! Opportunities for everyone  to learn in different ways and hardcopies for students who are unable to access online learning.

During Week 1 (Term 2),  hardcopies of work for students will be available for pick up at the school front office foyer from Friday 1st May 2020. Please contact the office staff if you need any further information.

I will be available during week 1 (Term 2) if you wish to speak to me personally to discuss your child’s education or any other matter, please do not hesitate to call.

Stay safe everyone!

Michelle Nicholson

Proud Principal

I have provided a copy of the NSW Department revised advice as from 3.00 pm on 23rd April 2020 below.

School operations in Term 2

What will Term 2 look like?

Advice first published at 7:45am on 21 April 2020

Revised at 3:00pm on 23 April 2020 NSW DET website

Term 2 will begin as it finished in Term 1. The majority of NSW students will be learning from home. Schools will be open and operational for students that need to attend but where practical, parents are encouraged to keep their children at home.

Teachers will plan the same learning for students at school and at home.

Key dates:

  • Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 April 2020: Pupil-free days
  • Wednesday 29 April – 8 May 2020: Students learning from home where practical
  • Monday 11 May: students attend school one day a week and learn from home on the other days

The Premier and Minister for Education have announced a phased operating model for NSW schools during COVID-19. The new model will see students being reintroduced to some face-to-face learning on campus starting from week 3.

More information on the new model and operational changes will be provided to parents and students before Week 3 of Term 2 begins to let you know the plan for the remainder of the term.
