Literacy (Reading and Writing)

We started the term with persuasive writing and narrative.

In Week 3 we started with information text. Once again  we are learning to identify key features of a information text and how to write an information text.

In the persuasive there was much debate around been able to classify anything factual with it comes to Vampires. We saw many students choose to write a persuasive piece about the need for Uniforms and requests to parents for a pet. Through our Information Text Unit, we also had a great deal of controversy when reading the Information Text on Amelia Earhart, there was varied ideas regards to facts versus opinion in one of the debate cards.  What are your thoughts? "The greatest challenge left was to fly around the world. Is this statement a fact

or an opinion?". The students showed a lot of creativity when answer another debate cards. "What is your theory about what happened to Amelia?". The students theories were varied and wonderful, such as

having been abducted by aliens. One of the best answers came from a student who used the book and did additional research to justify their answer.
